I know you're a fan of Anna Faris, so I was wondering if you've seen Smiley Face. I just saw it, and golly is it weird, though very funny thanks to Anna Faris being charmingly doofy and stoned (also some really funny sound and visual editing, though that's more of my kind of thing.) It's on Instant Stream, and I highly recommend it.
Hey guys,
I was reading the What to Watch on Monday, and it reminded me of something...Can you explain why Nurse Jackie is always nominated for awards in the comedy categories? I watched the first season of it when it first came out and thought it was really great, and I totally understand the concept of a dark comedy, but nothing that I saw made me think of dark comedy. It felt pretty much like a drama to me. It just don't make sense and don't think it's fair that it keeps stealing awards from actual comedies.
Asked this last week and feel like asking it again,
Hello sirs,
Just wondering what you two would consider your go-to perfect first date movie, my friend says that Garden State is the best as it chronicles two strangers who fall for each other over a short span of time and is broad and general enough in its entertainment to appeal to the widest spectrum of women. I usually make my choice on a per-girl basis, but it got me thinking about what choices you two would make, if there are any you prefer. I know that Rorie likes to use My Neighbor Totoro as a barometer for a girls film tastes, and was curious what you two would choose.
Obvious choices like pandering watered down musicals (I'm looking at you The Phantom of The Opera '04) and rom coms need not apply, I think my most used is Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.

much, but in most times I don't care

Description
Rorie is back from the great wonder of the world that is Wondercon (appropriate name then, eh?) with much to report on the status of such upcoming films as The Green Lantern, Priest, and The Immortals! Plus, we dig into spoiler-heavy territory to talk about the relative merits of Duncan Jones' Source Code (those who haven't seen it might want to skip between 31:00 and 40:00), quickly touch on some of the week's other mainstream and indie releases, hit up the news of the week, and randomly start talking about our weird Southern families. Oh boy.Podcast

QUESTION FOR BOTH OF Y'ALL- Since the Big Lebowski is this week's Screening Room thingy, I thought I'd ask what are your favorite LA based films? For me, it's Magnolia (and to a lesser degree, Punch Drunk Love), Crank, and, well, The Big Lebowski.

I don't think his films are very good. Its a very wanky film. Its a good tragic
funny film, not funny funny
Rorie
-
I have seen it. Its very bizarre

Garden State is a film just can not stand.
feel like this may have come up before, so feel free to skip this as you see fit:
How do you guys feel about product placement in media? Specifically movies, television, and games. I know a lot of people have a strong opposition to it, but as long as the advertising fits the material - I don't want Axe body spray in a movie like Blade Runner, but it makes sense for an extreme sports movie - then what's the problem? I know those soap operas make product placement seem like the grossest thing in the world, but I have two words that can validate the existence of product placement: Omar and Cheerios.

Good evening gentlemen!!
Love the podcast and the site! I just finished watching the Lil' Wayne doc "The Carter," and I really enjoyed it. I was wondering if you guys had any good recomendations/thoughts for other good hip-hop documentaries. (Note: I've kind of had enough of Tupac and Biggie.) Keep up the great work!!

There is a couple. Avoid the DJ Screw documentary. There is a
pretty good documentary called Rhyme and Reason that has Ice-T and notorious
BIG but there aren't many good rap documentaries
Rorie
-
This is not hip/hop but one of the Cat Williams movies is really weird
and insightful.
Hey Alex and Rorie, have you guys ever tried screenwriting? Do you enjoy writing (of any kind) outside of work?
Alex
-
I've written one screenplay that I have
tweaked over the past decade.
Rorie
-
No ive never tried to write a screenplay.
