Laughing When No One Else Gets It

When I was in high school, my friends and I almost got thrown out of Spider-Man because we could not stop laughing at the part where Willem Dafoe was talking to the disembodied Green Goblin mask. No one else in the theater seemed to find it funny, but I couldn't see how they didn't.

Have you ever had a moment that was just hilarious to you, but not anyone else? Do you think that I deserved to almost get thrown out for that?

Another similar moment for me was in the third Pirates of the Caribbean movie when Johnny Depp is running away from that rock crab thing. Clearly intended to be funny, but I was the only one in the theater who thought so.

Sorry if this is posted wrong for questions for next week's Screencast, but I didn't see a thread for the latest show.

Sure, I very clearly remember laughing my ass of during a part in Jennifer's Body that nobody around me found funny at all. As long as you weren't making a scene then you shouldn't be thrown out.

My wife and I both totally laughed at the end of the latest Star Trek film when they revealed Captain Pike was in a wheel chair because it reminded us of the original series and Pike's goofy rolling iron lung with the blinky light. But since no one else seemed to find it amusing it came off a bit like we were just ha ha wheel chair.

@Joseph: actually it's funny you mention that movie.  at the end when Yoda walks into (we'll call it Palpatine's office)  and the two Emperors Guards are standing there.  Yoda walks in between them and the force pushes the two of them into the wall and knocks them out.  He does it so non-shilontly (spelled wrong)  and I laughed out loud.  What was even funnier is a guy in front of me turned around and looked at me with a look of astonishment, but a moment later Yoda throws Palpatine backwards over his chair and he falls very awkward and the guy in front of me laugh out loud so we both started laughing.

I kept laughing at the fake looking CGI in The Wolfman. Nobody else knew what the hell I was laughing at.

When I went to see Rushmore it was alone during a matinée. The only other people in the theater were a handful of extremely elderly individuals. One old man, a couple rows behind me, fell asleep and began snoring very loudly halfway through. I loved the movie and thought it was hilarious, laughing the whole time. I'm not sure anyone else in the theater believed it was supposed to be a comedy.

When I went to see Congo on opening day with some friends, we were in middle school at the time, it was so stupid that we ended up loudly making fun of it the whole time. We really pissed off a meat-head in the row in front of us who, I guess, decided to impress his date by threatening to beat the shit out of some 13 year olds. Of course, him yelling at us was the funniest part of the whole experience.

Most recently, I went with three of my sisters to see X-Men 3 when it came out. We had all loved the first two, so X3 was a pretty big disappointed. We made fun of it the whole time. I think to begin with, the people near us in the fairly full theater were starting to get annoyed, but by the end we had won pretty much everyone to our way of thinking. The funniest part was during the scene in Jean's house where Professor X reels off this painful and awkward bit of exposition, my sister Ashley loudly exclaimed, "Ooooh!", as if understanding for the first time. I had never laughed so hard.

My buddy and I were the only 2 in the theatre that laughed at the National Geographic parody in the first Madagascar. Guess we were the only ones who remembered watching that show.

I laughed my butt off when Sam Jackson gets eaten in Deep Blue Sea. It was pretty shocking, but hilariously so. My friend and I probably ruined a few people's movie during that bit.

I couldn't stop laughing during Paranormal Activity. Micah's character was written really well, but I laughed at all of the horror parts, too. I've lived in my current house for most of my life, and it's very very old, and because of that a whole bunch of creepy noises come from it. I've gotten used to it, so when all the buildup was happening I was just chuckling at everyone being afraid of the floor creaking or something. And the last ten minutes were hilarious to me for a reason that I'm not entirely sure of.

My girlfriend at the time and I laughed all the way through Mirrors. The other theatre patrons were not impressed, but how do you watch that movie and not laugh at it? Best comedy of 2008.
