Hey! The Super Bowl happened! We also talk about The Roommate and Sanctum,Yojimbo and Sanjuro, and some other random crap I'm too tired to think of right now. Wooooo! Sports yelling!

And for a Yojimbo-related question, what is your favorite Kurosawa film?
Alex - Sanjuro or hidden fortress
http://www.screened.com/profile/enemymouse/
Sanjuro: I liked the way Sanjuro behaves as a parent to his students but to the chamberlain's wife and his daughter he is more childlike, or at least yields to them in the same way he might have been taught as a kid. Also the nervous neck scratching whenever the wife starts lecturing is a nice touch. Were there any other subtleties from either film that you really enjoyed?
Alex - Its really just all about his body language
http://www.screened.com/profile/lead_farmer/
Two days ago I received my order of Kagemusha on Blu-Ray. In an attempt to somehow make a collection of Kurosawa films, I also have Ran and Seven Samurai. Yojimbo will definitely be part of the collection. What other films by Kurosawa should I look into?
Alex - Akurio
Matt - Sanjuro, rashaman, the bad sleep well, high and low, red beard, throne of blood
http://www.screened.com/profile/jchenderson/
Blood is used sparingly in both these movies with only characters of note getting to spill it in their deaths. Was this an intentional approach by Kurosawa or was it back in those times censorship allowed only for limited use of such graphic scenes?
Matt - its more of a technical limitation
http://www.screened.com/profile/pat4327/
YOJIMBO / SANJURO: I really enjoyed the western twist twist that both films put on Japanese stories and I was wondering if you guys have any recommendations for other non-standard Westerns that I could watch.
Matt - Firefly is a good television western
http://www.screened.com/profile/president_barackbar/
I know I might get some heat for this, but I really don't like this movie. The first time I saw it, I almost fell asleep. The pacing of the film is so plodding that it borders on annoying, and the "action" is so sterile that you'd almost mistake it for a kid's movie. Being the first old samurai movie I had seen, I figured that they were all like that, and then when I saw the amazing final sequence of Harakiri, I felt like Yojimbo ripped me off. I even dreaded watching Fistfull of Dollars after I saw this film, but luckily for me that film is awesome and best of all the film moves at a good speed. Having seen Rashomon, I can tell that the really slow film is a Kurosawa specialty, but it just moves way too slow for me personally. What say you, oh most beloved hosts?
Alex - That is really a product of the time, Action in old action films is sorta slow and awkward
http://www.screened.com/profile/jump/
I'll admit to never having watched any Japanese films prior to watching these films this week (I liked Sanjuro and to a lesser extent Yojimbo as well). I was curious about the way that Toshiro Mifune and occasionally others walk around with their arms not in their sleeves unless they were fighting. Is there any significance to it, or is it just a decision made for that character?
Alex - I just think its a cultural thing
Matt - I honestly don't know
01:14:30 - Weird technical issue
01:17:30 - The Sting
01:20:00 - Ninja Warrior
** Note - There were a few questions that weren't attributed to a user (emails I'm guessing) so they aren't detailed below.
http://www.screened.com/profile/el33tcapitan/
I love old school Jackie Chan, but his late career arc has been disappointing beyond belief. Are there any action stars picking up where Jackie Chan left off (minimal wire work, comedy, ridiculous stunts). Also: what's your favorite Jackie Chan movie?
Alex - The original drunken master is pretty good
Matt - Police story, the legend of the drunken master

I know Alex is probably sick and tired of getting questions about horror movies, but I don't think you've discussed this particular section of the genre before...so here goes. I recently had my first experience with Italian "Giallo" horror films when I watched Dario Argento's Suspiria on Netflix (that was actually a day of crazy ballet-related movies for me as that night I finally got around to seeing Black Swan). I really enjoyed Suspiria and wanted to hear your thoughts on that particular style of horror and if there are any other Giallo films you'd reccomend. Thanks a bunch and keep up the good work.
Alex - I am not the biggest italian horror film fan. Vesperia is an intresting film in an art house horror way
http://www.screened.com/profile/beef209/
What was the best plane crash scene in a movie? While Fight Club had a good one and Almost Famous had a great almost plane crash, Alive probably has the best plane crash scene for me.
Alex - Alive is the one for me
http://www.screened.com/profile/scancase/
Well all love sci-fi and the insane things that writers come up to explain how things work or how this society is constructed, but has there ever been a singular thing in a sci-fi movie or tv show that just went to far and broke your suspension of disbelief and turned you off?Alex - Rocket pack in 2004 really kills me

Ok Guys and Dolls i'm trying something a little different this week. It is similar to every other week but I've added a 'Question Connection film strip'. It's a visual storyboard of how Alex and Matt go about answering the question.
