Why Don't Alex And Rorie Do The Podcast On Friday?

Since most of their reviews go up on Friday, wouldn't that mean they could talk about the upcoming weekend's movies? That way, we could get their opinions and decide what movies to see on the weekend. Whatever the reason may be, the podcast is still awesome!

this has been answered a few times. Rorie is only in the office what, two days a week? Mondays and Wednesdays, I've heard him say. Alex's schedule is probably full as well.

Stuff can happen over the weekend. More than can happen from Monday to Tuesday.

Well, the only reason Rorie is in the office on Monday is because of the podcast. So, instead just come in on Friday instead or just come in three days a week. I actually think this is a great idea.

Also, Rorie just showed up on the Bricked live stream so yes, he is in the office on Friday.

I'm fairly certain at this point that Rorie doesn't give a shit about the podcast.

It's kinda hard to be so wrapped up in a podcast when A) you don't enjoy public speaking, B) have an understaffed website to run, C) your editorial partner fucked off to the other side of the country (I love you Alex, but you did), D) Corporate still hasn't hired anyone to help alleviate the responsibilities that Rorie got saddled with after Alex's aforementioned fucking of the off.

I would like more videos, more enthusiasm in the podcast, and more subscriber content as well, but I don't blame Rorie for running on fumes these past couple of months.

We can call for Friday podcasts all we like, but that doesn't mean it's going to balance out with the staff's schedules.

Thursdays and Fridays is usually when they actually see the movies, or are writing reviews.

Mondays are best because they have a weekend worth of movies and reviews they can talk about and that way they can speak about movies with some authority rather than speculate about the future, which they sometimes do anyways.

Rorie is already coming in on Mondays, it seems to fit with Alex's schedule, and for the most part has always worked with the current format. Don't see why they should change it.

@positron: For awhile I know he was editing the entire podcast on a mac which he hated. Since handing it off to an intern I think its a bit better for him.

Rorie can turn up to work whenever he needs to, it's up to him where he can be most effective from so a Friday podcast would be do-able if that's what they wanted. The podcast could use more energy but no one should blame Rorie for that. He's under tremendous pressure and likely never wanted to host the thing ever anyway.

I don't think it should be moved to Friday though. Films will be out before the podcast sometimes and in some cases Alex and Rorie might have seen the film before the podcast. Sometimes they won't have. They're also probably busy writing the reviews too and no one knows how the film is performing financially. Talking about specifics of why you think a film is good or bad whilst you're in the middle of the review process isn't the best idea. You can use the reviewing time to clarify your thoughts and then you can talk more eloquently about it afterwards.

I think the current system where the films come out and get reviewed and then get discussed when box office numbers are out is a much neater way of doing it. Also, the podcast room is probably pretty well booked and changing it around might be a problem. Plus you don't want to rely on a intern to do the mixing on a Friday and then that not happen and then not get it until the following Monday anyway. I'd be all for a shifting of P-day to mid-week if the scheduling allowed it so that they could stay out of the way of the bombcast and not miss episodes.

Sometimes I just wonder, how long until Screened turns into Animevice?

Rorie has been UNABLE to host a podcast well since Alex left. He may have a bigger workload but he needs to compensate and if every week he podcast suffers, then something should change.

Also, rorie complains constantly about everything, I feel like I know more about his first world struggles and personal life than I should.

Monday is right after the weekend so they can talk about all the things they saw on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. If they did it Friday it would be like a "this is what we are going to see" kind of thing, or talking about things they saw five days ago which wouldn't be as fresh in their minds. Also, Mondays suck and I like having the podcast as the one thing I look forward to at the start of the week. The one problem is that it is the same day the Giant Bomb guys record the Bombcast, which often cuts the Screendcast short. One solution would be for Alex and Rorie to record on Tuesday, but I'm not sure if their schedules would allow it. As it stands, Monday is a pretty good day for the podcast, other than the occasionally cut-down length.

This thread has become rather sad.

Rorie works incredibly hard for Screened and Whiskey Media, easily over 60 hours a week. And yet you Pups think it isn't enough? Not to mention Joey, Alex, and a handful of freelancers doing their best to have content arriving on the front page.

I understand you all want a better podcast, but with things the way they are I think Rorie and Alex do a pretty awesome job as it is.

Sweet Jesus, what the hell? Personally, I love having the podcast at the beginning of the week since I listen to BtSD, Bombcast & This is a Test so it fills out my weekly drive nicely. I wish the podcast would go longer than it does at times but with Rorie doing a lot solo, I can only imagine how hard it is. I know awhile back they were looking for freelancers but is that still the case? I would love to contribute to Screened in some editorial fashion though I am in Chicago so that would be a problem.

@FinalDasa: I can't speak for everyone else here, but I want this site to succeed and would love to know how besides commenting on the forums, posting reviews, etc. Is there something the community can do to help (besides the bitching)?

Getting Rorie some back-up so he doesn't devolve into a nervous wreck seems like the major thing to deal with for the time being. The trouble as I see it is, if Rorie takes a vacation, the site effectively grinds to a halt. Occasionally missing a podcast due to various cases of the Mondays is no big deal in comparison; I'm not going to give him beef for it or ask that he rearrange his schedule.

However I have no such qualms about asking him stupid questions for his podcasts/Ramblins. That's my God-given right as a Whiskey Media subscriber.

Easy pops. Most of us are actually defending Rorie and the crew.

@FinalDasa: It is not crazy to want for a better podcast. It hasn't gotten better and it should get better.

@Mento: Nay. Asking stupid questions is your DUTY.

I hope the site succeeds and I think the guys do great work. However, someone should have been brought into the office long ago to replace Alex. That hasn't happened so the whole 'Rorie being overworked and exhausted' thing has gone from being a stop-gap situation to being the norm. I don't expect anyone to put themselves through that for my personal entertainment. I would settle for less content if the contributors were happier and more relaxed. I work incredibly long hours too and I wouldn't be in any fit state to record a podcast every week so I don't blame anyone for that. The last couple of podcasts have sounded fresher, maybe because of the 2 week break. Also having a third contributor in studio, like Norm, really seems to energize things.

Rorie works his butt off for Whiskey Media and I don't care if the podcast isn't always great. He+ Alex+ freelancers+Joey make the site what it is and if the podcast aint great then so what because the content all of them manage to put out in a single week is why Screened stands out as one of the best websites in existence.
