It's been a while since we've had one of those State of the Union Address things from President Barack Obama, but those in desperate need of an hour-long fix of Presidential pageantry amid vague speeches about things that are good and bad and mostly just somewhere in between in America right now will get their fix tonight. The Address is airing on pretty much every network, which means that some of your favorite shows are probably being purged into rerun purgatory until next week. Sorry about that.
The rest of tonight's show crop is largely overshadowed by the charmingly threatening presence of Timothy Olyphant as Raylan Givens, but there are a few other things you could be watching as well. They're not good, but you could watch them, I suppose.
What to Watch: January 24, 2011
| 1. The State of the Union Address 9PM EST/6PM PST - Every Goddamn Network - Barack Obama will talk about the country, probably make some subtle jabs at the Republican presidential field, then burst into an impromptu and highly energetic rendition of Nina Simone's "Sinnerman" before kicking over the podium, dropping the mic, and letting the feedback ring throughout the halls of Congress. Or not. | |
| Justified 10PM - FX - A Marshal gets murdered, sending Raylan and Art after the culprit. Meanwhile, Boyd plots his revenge against Dickie Bennett, ensuring at least one episode of this show will closely resemble an episode of Oz. | |
| Southland 10PM - TNT - I still kind of can't deal with the fact that Lucy Liu is on this show. The whole point is that the cops on this show don't really look like mainstream actors. Lucy Liu is mainstream actress incarnate. Also, would make for a really tiny cop. I think tonight's episode is actually about that. | |
| Joan & Melissa: Joan Knows Best? 9PM - WE - Season premiere. Joan will do something wacky. Melissa will be embarrassed. Lather, rinse, repeat for 13 episodes. See you next season. | |
| Storage Wars 10PM - A&E - The crew goes to San Francisco for some reason, because I don't fucking know! Maybe don't actually watch this! | |
| Ink Master 10PM - Spike TV - "A skull tattoo gone wrong requires medical attention." You see? This is why this is a bad idea for a show. | |
| Extreme Couponing 10PM - TLC - I give up. Fuck you, television. |
