We're cute! Why don't you want to watch our show?
We're cute! Why don't you want to watch our show?

Did you catch the premiere of Love Bites last week? No? Didn't think so; only a couple million people bothered to tune in, probably because no one knew what the hell it was, thus dooming it to a quick cancellation. I wouldn't be surprised to see them yank it off the air after this week, but who's to say what's in NBC's head these days. The backstory of the series' development is actually pretty interesting; apparently it was filmed so long ago that almost everyone involved in it has moved on to other series already. So I guess a renewal was never really in the cards.

Cancellation is not among the fears of the showrunners for So You Think You Can Dance, which is chugging along in its eighth season with another two-hour episode tonight. You know what? I can't dance. I don't even think I can dance. When I see people who are good at dancing I get a little bit jealous; if I ever have a son I'm going to make goddamn sure that he can cut a rug. So this show offers little to me.

In cableland, Animal Planet has the awdorable series called Too Cute! Kittens on as a repeat at 8 PM, followed by repeats of America's Cutest Cat 2010 and America's Cutest Dog 2010. Guess what I'll be watching tonight?

Of course, the king of the airwaves tonight will be Game 5 of the Heat-Mavericks series. It's been a heck of a series thus far, with a lot of close finishes that haven't felt too heavily influenced by the refs. Whatever the outcome of Game 5, though, you can bet that some suspicious calls from the zebras will ensure that the other team wins in Game 6. That crafty old David Stern will ensure that a Game 7 series materializes, mark my words.

Definitely watching the game tonight. I have a feeling that the Heat could end up winning the finals...

Hmm, looks like I'll be Netflixing tonight. I care about basketball about as much as I care about baseball which is not much.

Oh my god, I really need to start watching more TV.

@CherryBomb: Yeah I love Becki Newton too. She's really cute & funny on Ugly Betty

Becki Newton should move on to bigger and better things than Love Bites.

Rather be watching red necks shoot gators on instant streaming than anything else tonight.

I actually sat through the entire hour of Love Bites. That's one of the problems with the show, it's too long. The show's structure is a series of vignettes following different characters in different cities (New York and San Francisco). The multiple plots don't give one a chance to connect with the variety of thinly-sketched characters: the single girl who's starting a relationship, the engaged couple who's trying to improve their sex life, the married couple, and other supporting characters. The plots were worn and poorly developed. The engaged guy got replaced by a computer at work and had to deal with his fiancee replacing him with a vibrator. The married guy has a chance to have sex with Jennifer Love Hewitt; I'm not a JLH fan, but if she's the only celebrity on you "list," then just have sex with her. Love Bites delivers no laughs and no emotional investment.

NBC might air the rest of the shows because the network has nothing else to air this summer unless it wants to take a page from the old summer playbook and show reruns. I'm hoping for reruns.

I've seen commercials for Love Bites and I still can't figure out what the hell it's about.

I kind of enjoyed the season premiere. Then again, I like Jennifer Love Hewitt.

@CherryBomb: Nah, never seen it. Other than it being supposedly "uninspired", the only good thing that people pointed out in the reviews was the fact that Becki Newton's charming in it. So maybe it's worth a look whenever they post the series on Netflix 6 months from now.

@VinceNotVance:  Yeah me too
Why have they even aired this?  All of the cast have signed onto other shows already, so can't even return for a second season.

@CherryBomb: According to the Wikipedia page, the show was heavily delayed; it was cast in early 2010, Jordana Spiro was cast then had to leave the show, so she was replaced. Then Becki Newton became pregnant, so the show had to be retooled, then the showrunner left, then the episode order was cut in late 2010, while the main cast members already moved onto other pilots.

Then the show FINALLY premiered in early June. So it's a wonder it made it to TV at all!

@VinceNotVance:  Yeah, I read about all that, seems like it's had a tough production! - It's annoying because people will fall in love with only to have an impossibility of it ever having another series.
