I'm sure this is going to be a thoughtful, respectful portrayal of nerds in love, and not at all a train wreck.
I'm sure this is going to be a thoughtful, respectful portrayal of nerds in love, and not at all a train wreck.

I warned you this was coming. I told you to prepare. I hope you heeded my call, because if you didn't, your weekends are about to get waaaaaay more boring.

Many shows you love are about to have their season finales this weekend. And as for the new shows taking their place? Well, you need only look at the above header to know exactly what kind of shit you've just inadvertently wandered into. It is the shittiest of shit.

That said, let's sing an elegy to the likes of Homeland and Dexter, and gird ourselves for the horrors of mid-season reality television and the upcoming deluge of Bowl Games, of which I all but refuse to acknowledge, on account of college sports. Hah!

What to Watch This Weekend: December 16, 2011

Chuck

Friday at 8PM - NBC - Rebecca Romijn guest-stars as a rival assassin. I know this makes me weird, but I think Carrie-Anne Moss is way more interesting. Weird, right? I think it's my Matrix fetish. I can only get a boner if I can imagine a lady doing wire kung-fu in full body vinyl suits. It's a regular point of contention with my girlfriend, who is just not that acrobatic nor a fan of vinyl. Fuck my life.

The Life & Times of Tim

Friday at 9PM - HBO - Here is the third season premiere of an animated series I have never seen and in fact had forgotten I even knew the existence of until just now. Who watches this? Is it good?

Ghost Adventures

Friday at 9PM - Travel Channel - The season finale, in which the ghost bro dudes bring a couple of fans along for an investigation. I'm guessing this will not actually help them catch ghosts, or whatever the hell it is they do.

WWE's Salute to the Troops

Saturday at 9PM - NBC - Wait, I get to watch wrestlers salute our troops, AND hear performances from Mary J. Blige and Nickelback?!? WHAT GOD DID I PLEASE?!?

Earth's Final Hours

Saturday at 9PM - SyFy - Why has this been one of the top viewed movies on our site all week? What are you people DOING?!?

Survivor

Sunday at 8PM - CBS - A two-hour season finale! In which someone wins money for probably being a dick and being good at survival stuff! This show is STILL ON THE AIR.

Allen Gregory

Sunday at 9PM - FOX - Season finale, in which I admit I have watched no episodes of this show. I'm not really ashamed of that fact.

Funny or Die's Billy on the Street

Sunday at 9PM - FUSE - Billy Eichner is a very funny man. He now has a game show in which he approaches people on the street and screams questions at them like a raving lunatic. I assure you this will be worth watching. Don't believe me? BELIEVE NOW.

Geek Love

Sunday at 9PM - TLC - A reality show about nerds dating. The first episode takes place at New York Comic-Con, where geeks took part in a speed-dating...thing. I BET THIS WILL BE GREAT.

Dexter

Sunday at 9PM - Showtime - Season finale, in which nothing horrible happens to Dexter. I know this, because the show's been renewed for two more seasons, so of course he'll be fine. Way to ruin all the tension, Showtime!

Homeland

Sunday at 10PM - Showtime - Season finale, in which we learn how the hell the show's writers plan to turn this plot into a multi-seasonal show. I look forward to learning the secret!

Hell on Wheels

Sunday at 10PM - AMC - Elam's in trouble, Cullen has to make important decisions, and Durant's still a money-hungry dick. In other words: More Hell on Wheels.

Oh man, I died during that Billy Eichner video. I NEED to see this show.

Why is it these TV ghost people have the need to hunt for ghosts in the dark? What the ghosts are photo-sensitive? They don't show up until you turn off the lights?

Yeah, I had never heard of him before, but that video was fucking hilarious. Thanks for opening my eyes to the joys of the world, Alex.

I forgot about The Life and Times of Tim too, but I'm glad it's back. It's absolutely hilarious if you're in the right mood.

Actually yeah. They can't exist in the light or something. Which is how you know they're doing SOMETHING wrong because they haven't encountered a single Boo.

OT I gotta watch that nerd speeding dating show. I just, I gotta. How else will I know even I can find love?

Billy Eichner and Homeland, this is the greatest Sunday ever.

So I caught up on Dexter last night and I'm really enjoying this season. I was let down like all hell by the finale of last season, but this one has been a lot of fun to watch. Fuck the haters.

@Radio_Resistance: I still can't find myself to even watch any of the new season. The last season was such a letdown that I've found myself overcome with absolute boredom when watching the new season.

Life and Times of Tim is good. Comedy in the vein of stuff like The League, but animated in a kind of unique way.

I don't know how this week's Chuck can compare to last week where EVERYONE GOT NAKED but I'll watch it anyway. That and Hell On Wheels.

What ever happened to the user TearsInRain? I liked her. The deadline reminded me of her. Oh well. I am sad to say that I am not currently watching any of these shows, although I suppose in the long run I am happier because otherwise I would be bummed about them being finished. Good TV and stuff yeah.

I guess it's time to get back to Chuck.

The WWE Tribute to the Troops was actually pretty great; they gave it on USA on tuesday.

I mean, for one, it's all a shoot - there's very little kayfabe (I think Dolph Ziggler and Wade Barrett remained in-heel). NO ONE wants to offend the troops, so most feuds are put aside and everyone's just cool with each other and they show it in myriad segments (like when CM Punk, Cody Rhodes, Kofi Kingston and Eve visited that paratroopers' squad). Michael Cole is the biggest improvement of this effect; he REALLY tones down the obnoxious douchey-ness and goes back to talking like a goddamn human being. Although all those corporate tools still pimp Twitter and Social Media WAY too hard. Number two, it's nice to see such a weird combination of celebrities send out quick little messages to the Troops too; WWE got a good mix of guys coming on the show this year. From Hugh Jackman to Kermit and Miss Piggy (!); if I were a soldier, I'd think that kinda stuff was actually really nice.

And finally, of course, there are some great matches now too that the younger guys in the locker room are getting serious pushes. Guys like CM Punk, Randy Orton, Sheamus, Ted DiBiase, Zack Ryder, the aforementioned Barrett and Ziggler. etc. are all well conditioned and more than capable of putting on good matches alongside older pros like Big Show (although you could lump CM Punk and Orton into the "seasoned pro" category easily). WWE would be in a pretty great place right now if it weren't for Cole.

As for Nickelback....ehhh. I easily could hate on them. The best thing I could say about Nickelback is that I never knew until tuesday that the current WWE Raw theme was sung by them; it's a perfectly fitting theme to the show, and I won't talk about it further.

I'm probably going to watch it again on NBC this Saturday.
