There are bad Sundays, there are horrible Sundays, and then there are Pro Bowl Sundays.
The Pro Bowl, which airs at 7PM EST/4PM Pacific on NBC this Sunday, is always the worst thing ever. It's a bunch of highly paid athletes, who have spent the previous week dicking around in Hawaii, skipping and grinning their way through a game that could only be more worthless if the football they used was made out of chocolate. That said, it may be your only useful option this Sunday, as apart from Showtime's current slate of wildly uninteresting shows, and a TV movie (which I'll get to shortly) that will make you laugh, cry, or cry from laughter, there is nothing.
Fortunately, Friday and Saturday have at least marginally better options. Let's see what those are.
| Chuck Friday at 8PM - NBC - Series Finale. Yes, the final two episodes of Chuck air back-to-back tonight, as NBC seems real, REAL anxious to get rid of this thing. The finale itself seems like it's going to be one of those reunion type episodes, with a lot of past characters showing up to help Chuck through whatever the hell he's doing. So if you dig this show still, it'll probably be a nice little send-off. | |
| Fringe Friday at 9PM - FOX - A girl with a mysterious power to see the future is hanging around this week, and there is some kind of warning from the Observers, who I guess are people that observe things. Look, I don't really watch this show. I just know you all like it, so I keep bringing it up. | |
| Portlandia Friday at 10PM - IFC - Annoying parents try to get their kid into a prestigious preschool, among other sketches featuring annoying people. Not a complaint about the show, mind you. Just, let's face it: this show is largely predicated on the humor surrounding annoying people and how annoying they are. | |
| Spartacus: Vengeance Friday at 10PM - Starz - Spartacus is back, with its third Spartacus in three years, I am to understand. Granted, the original actor died from cancer, so it's not like they could just bring him back. As for this season and what it entails? No idea. I'm assuming blood, politics, and tits galore. Why else would you watch a Starz show? | |
| UFC: Davis vs. Evans Saturday at 8PM - FOX - Rashad Evans fights Phil Davis, and Chael Sonnen takes on Michael Bisping in a free UFC event on FOX, live from Chicago. Hopefully it'll be better than the last FOX UFC event, which ended in like eight seconds. | |
| 6. Swamp Volcano Saturday at 9PM - SyFy - Okay, at this point, the writers of these SyFy original movies have to just be throwing darts at a wall covered with words. Whatever two words they hit, they make a movie out of it. Swamp Volcano? Fucking seriously? | |
| Namath Saturday at 9PM - HBO - An HBO sports doc about "Broadway" Joe Namath, the great New York Jets quarterback who helped give that position the rockstar flavor it's held ever since. Hopefully, this will help teach current Jets fans why Mark Sanchez is not, and never will be anything like Joe Namath. | |
| A Smile as Big as the Moon Sunday at 9PM - ABC - Sigh...okay, so this Hallmark original movie is a true story about a group of mentally challenged and special needs children who win a battle to be taken to NASA Space Camp by their teacher, played by John Corbett. It's schmaltz town USA, but you know what? I would totally rather watch a movie about mentally challenged fake astronaut children than the retarded football of the Pro Bowl. |
