@litrock: I'm with you on the door thing. After all the nutty stuff they went through, he couldn't get out of the water?
I agree that Kate Winslet has aged extremely well.
Kate Winslet isn't hot gimmie scarlett johansson all day everyday. My Heart Will Go On is indeed a terrible song.
I loath titanic I think its to long and the best part is when everyone dies. It a easy pick between Aleins and T2 and this. The latter are two of the best action movies made the latter like you said is a totally forgettable kinda bad romance that lets him show off cool stuff.
I don't think I've ever actually seen the entire movie. I was too young to really care when it came out in theaters and when it aired on cable I generally just watched the second half where everything went to hell. I did enjoy that part. I doubt I'll see it in 3D though.
Nice article. Although this general understanding that 3D is a bad thing for movies still baffles me. 3D might put you off now, but obviously 3D is a very good thing considering that's how we perceive everything every single day. We're on the path to better 3D right now and eventually it won't be a thing, everything will just be in 3D and it will look fantastic. I can understand if you don't like how it is now, but I think it's a necessary evil (if it's so terrible to you). I don't mind 3D, I don't think it necessarily makes the movie better but I also don't think it makes it any worse either. The depth effect in animated movies is pretty great just for separating the foreground, middle ground, and background.
I'm interesting in seeing this post conversion 3D Titanic merely because I want to see how good a job they have done. It'll be interesting to compare that to some of more recent terrible ones.
I grew up in a town with a drive-in and this came out in the winter. I'd only go and see this just so I can see it all without having to swap VHS cassettes halfway through. Although, the benefit of it coming out on 2 VHS cassettes is the fact that I could just opt to watch the second half only.
Huh. I used to watch the second VHS only too.
A decent read, this would be the first and probably only instance that i will want to drag my mrs to the cinemas to see a romantic film, this is a cracking film. I just remember the buzz amongst all us 12 year olds that there were BOOBS in this movie and we could see them if we wanted. Oh and the film was quite good too, especially watching all the girls cry at Leo dying (spoilers? oh yeah btw, the ship sinks at the end)
I also find it funny that as a 12 year old i used to think 'Leonardo DiCaprio is a prick who can't act and' yadda yadda yadda ... and now he's probably my all time favourite actor of this generation, how he hasn't won an Oscar is beyond me.
PS: When you wrote 'Terminator 2 is one of my all time favourite movies' my only hope is that you rank the first film above the second one as it is a far superior film as it is basically the same film but with a budget.
Good read. Yet, it's hard to relate to y'all when you're all nothing but faceless people with some random username bringing in news. It's even harder to relate or appreciate when you're putting up a writeup like this that tells some things about your personal experiences. I don't care if you're only contributors--put up you're own profile picture, have your usernames changed to reflect an actual person's name. Put up a video introducing yourselves in the tradition of Screened for chrissakes! Make us care about you!
My biggest criticism of Titanic is it's more than 3 hours long and not an especially good movie. If it was merely 2 hours than it would be a medicore movie, but if you expect me to set aside half my day to watch a movie, it better be an amazing, life changing event. Titanic was not that for me, and thus I have no interest in ever seeing it again.
Following the open source theme of the show, the Otaku King is now inviting everybody to join in.
