Doctor Strange is one of the most under appreciated comic book hero out there (in my opinion) and for some reason isn't all that popular. However Marvel Studios has realized that Doctor Strange does deserve a film that seems to be set for 2013 or 2014. For those of you who don't know much about Doctor Strange, I'll explain: Dr. Stephen Strange was a gifted yet arrogant neurosurgeon before a car accident damaged the nerves in his hand and robbed him of the steady hands needed to be a surgeon. Strange searched far and wide all over the world for a cure but to no results until he came to the Himalayas in search of one man who could help him-The Ancient One. The rumors were true and Strange did discover the ancient one. However the Ancient One would not help Strange unless he became his apprentice.

Strange was angry at the Ancient One for refusing to help him but after the Ancient One was attacked, Strange was amazed at seeing magic and decided to say with the Ancient One. He then later discovered that the attack was perpetrated by the Ancient One's other pupil-Baron Mordo. From there you can guess what happened.

For me the Doctor Strange movie should be set currently and should not be a period piece. I want the whole trench coat look for Doctor Strange instead of his classic costume with the cape. There's nothing wrong with that costume it's just I prefer Strange with the trench coat. The magic has to be real and not be unexplained science. I liked that aspect of Kenneth Branagh's Thor because it grounded the movie in some sort of reality. They weren't gods, instead they were aliens worshiped as gods.

Director

This was almost too easy for me. There is only one director I know that could possibly handle Doctor Strange and that is Guillermo Del Toro. Del Toro has experience with supernatural and mystical heroes as he directed Blade II and did both Hellboy and Hellboy II: Golden Army. It's been a while since I've seen Blade II or Hellboy though but from what I can remember both were quite good movies. I liked Hellboy because even though it was about all this supernatural stuff, Del Toro made it believable and that is not an easy thing to do.

I haven't seen Pan's Labyrinth but apparently Del Toro was able to make everything completely believable and that film is straight up mystical/supernatural stuff. Del Toro has that unique ability to blend horror, comedy, and action without any real problems. Now a Doctor Strange film won't be funny but with him it will be probably perfect.

Doctor Strange

Many fans seem to want Liam Neeson for the role of Doctor Strange.I love me some Liam Neeson but him as Doctor Strange? Not in my world, not ever in my world. My choice is actor Guy Pearce. He's the correct age for Doctor Strange and I think he's a good actor. He gave a (to me) a memorable performance in 2010's The King's Speech as King Edward VIII and starred in a mini series called Mildred Pierce for which he won an Emmy Award. He's a seriously talented actor and I really think that he is the best possible choice for the role. His performance in Christopher Nolan's Memento showcases that Pearce is easily one of the greatest actors of all time (Yes I did just say that).

Doctor Strange isn't by any means a young guy so Pearce really fits the role a lot better than Liam Neeson does. Neeson is now nearly sixty years old and that's just too old for Doctor Strange. I don't want to see someone who is sixty playing the character. Pearce is 44 and to me is Doctor Strange. suggested the actor Jon Hamm for the role and coincidentally earlier in the day I had thought of him for the role. It bugs me that he'll never get to be Superman but if he can be Doctor Strange, then I'll be happy.

Clea

Clea is Doctor Strange's love interest I suppose you could say. She's a sorcerer like Doctor Strange and comes from the Dark Dimension which she is ruler of (or was I should say). She hasn't really been used in the comics all that much in a while and I think it's important that she is in this film. For the character I have to go with Naomi Watts. She's beautiful and brings that level of sophistication to the role.

It's not really all that important who plays the role but I personally would definitely like Watts to do it. The character is right around Doctor Strange's age and Watts is 43 believe it or not. She doesn't look that age but apparently she was born in 1968. Clea is going to stand out from all the other love interests because she is a sorcerer (or sorceress if you like) and not just a damsel in distress even though I don't believe any of the other love interests for the Marvel heroes in the movies have been that. suggested Teresa Palmer who sort of rocks the whole blond/platinum like Clea does. I'd have to say she seems like a good choice; a bit young for the role but yeah she does seem like she could do it.

Dormammu & Baron Mordo

Strange's greatest villain is Dormammu. He is the ruler of the Dark Dimension and the greatest enemy of Strange's mentor the Ancient One. He is also the uncle of Clea apparently as well. Dormammu could be done in several different ways. You could create solely by CGI, have him look human and enrage fans, or have him created with CGI but have the actor wear a motion capture suit. I want Ben Kingsley for the role because I think he has a great voice for Dormammu and I'm sick of him doing terrible (Prince of Persia anyone?)

However if he is casted for the role, he sure won't be playing him physically because well Kingsley isn't exactly tall. He is 5'8" but in comparison to some actors he's not huge. However he's got a great voice and this would give him the opportunity to do something good for once.

As for Baron Mordo, I have to go with Christoph Waltz because well he is a fantastic actor and he is just perfect for the role of Baron Mordo. It all depends on how much Baron Mordo is used in the film. If he's only there for the origin than having Waltz play him would be kinda useless.

Director

I like the idea of Del Toro, but I have a few other ideas as well. I think after Hugo everyone could get behind Martin Scorsese in a role like this, as long as he would want it. Also, Alex Proyas would be awesome, especially since someone just cancelled his awesome looking Paradise Lost film. Hark Tsui would also be great.

Doctor Strange

If the movie gets Scorsese, we'd all have to accept Leonardo DiCaprio for the role. But I think he would be good.

My first choice, though, is Andy Lau. He needs to get more American roles, and he is great. He would give a really fascinating performance.

Hugh Jackman would also be awesome.

Clea

How about Aimee Teegarden? She was charming in Prom.

Villain

I don't know if Mordo would be a good villain. I think they should connect it the established universe by having a Thor or Iron Man villain take the role. I don't know who, though. Maybe Enchantress.

The Ancient One

I think Dustin Hoffman would be perfect for the role.

@VioletEyedDragon:

Interesting choices. I love DiCaprio but I don't think he's Doctor Strange material. Dustin Hoffman is a great actor but the Ancient One is Asian and so an Asian actor should play him. Teegarden seems good for the role of Clea and Enchantress would be a great choice for the villain. Hugh Jackman as Strange? That's an interesting choice. I'd have to think about that one. I think he could do it but he is so associated with Wolverine that I just don't think having him play another Marvel hero would work.

thanks.

Chris Evans has played five different comic book characters, three of which were Marvel. Yet it still works that he is Cap. Jackman would be fine.

I am hesitant to pick an Asian as the Ancient One because it seems a little cliche. The old asian mentor who is than replaced by a young white one. It's in a lot of movies. Anyway, my first choice for Strange was Andy Lau, who is Asian.

@CrimsonAvenger: These are awesome picks (but get Benedict Cumberbatch if Guy Pearce isn't available). I want this movie made now, with a script by Christopher Bird.

Great choices all around. Guy Pierce would be an awesome Strange.

My personal pick is Patrick Dempsey.

I kinda like Jon Hamm for Doctor Strange, he's good in Mad Men and can do gritty drama quite well.

Teresa Palmer as Clea,

she's beautiful, definitely rocks the whole platinum blonde/white hair look. She's a good actress, definitely used to action films.

@CherryBomb:

Both your choices are excellent, especially Jon Hamm. Somehow I just today thought of him for the role as well. I think I'll add the both of these and credit you for the idea.

Awwh thank you! (: I've had Teresa and Jon in my mind for Strange and Clea for a while! I saw Teresa and immediately though "Clea".

I really like your choice of Guy Pearce.  Though outside of a few cameo appearances in other comics I know very little about Dr. Strange.
