Uncharted: Drake's Fortune was a pretty awesome game and four years later, it still holds up pretty well in some aspects but in gunplay; not so much. I love the game but have actually only played through the entire game twice in nearly four years. The games work not only because the gameplay is miles ahead of anything that appeared in Tomb Raider but it also because of the interactions between the characters and their incredible stories. The games' primary focus is on it's characters and right from the beginning, you could tell that these games were perfect for a movie. Even as a fan, I'm quick to point out that the first game isn't that great when compared to Uncharted 2 and I honestly could not give the first one any high than 3.5/5 Stars.
I usually disprove of using a video games' cast in a movie adaptation of a game but I honestly don't feel I could cast anyone but Nolan North and Emily Rose for the roles of Nathan Drake and Elena Fisher. Nolan North is just so good at the role that he makes it impossible to cast another actor in the role. But he's now 40 and an doesn't look exactly like Drake. Still she's 30 and so casting an unknown around the same age to play Drake would make things work. I think if the film were to be at least two hours, then it might be possible to fully tell the story of the first game but I can't help but feel that it should be split up into two films.
Nathan Drake
Tons of people seem to want Nathan Fillion to play the role and keep throwing around comparison photos of him in Firefly and Nate Drake but he was on that show like ten years ago and is no longer young enough to play the role. The guy is now 40 years old and Drake looks like he's no older than 34; that's a seven year difference. Fillion could have played the character back when he was on Firefly but he's simply too old to play the role.
My top choice is the great Bradley Cooper who is really a quite great actor as Limitless proves. I don't know if he has any interest in the role but he really is the perfect choice for the character.
An unknown is the best way to go as you have no expectations for the actor and can not ride the film on their popularity like Tomb Raider rid solely on the fact that Angelina Jolie was popular and was sexy. Sure the film turned out to be all right at best but still it really only starred her because she was popular. So I have to say I want an unknown for the role and not an accomplished actor. There is also an actor who ( who was suggested to me by ryanwho) is a rising star in Hollywood-Michael Fassbender from Ireland.
Elena Fisher
Elena Fisher is one tough cookie, she can hold her own as well as Drake can and honestly I prefer her over Chloe Frazer. I'd love to see Emily Rose reprise the role but if she didn't then I'm going to have to say Allison Mack from Smallville would be a good choice. Kristen Bell is another choice for the role as well.
Victor Sullivan
I'm torn between two actors for this role-Bruce Campbell and J.K. Simmons. Both could play the role and I think Simmons would more likely do it since Bruce Campbell doesn't really do these kind of movies. Many remember Simmons as the ever so cool J. Jonah Jameson in Sam Raimi's Spider Man films. He was totally excellent in that movie and his voice over work is just as good. Bruce Campbell on the other hand is an actor I'm only familiar with due to Burn Notice as he plays a character named Sam Axe on the show. If you're like me, you like Burn Notice because Bruce Campbell rules and the show is a very well written spy drama.
I personally am more likely to choose J.K. Simmons just because the guy is just perfect for the role. He would be absolutely totally convincing as Sully. I've never seen this guy do any action scenes or hold a gun before so I really would like to see how he would fare as Sully. I think I could believe him as the character. Sully is bad-ass grumpy old guy who smokes a cigar and wields a 44. revolver and Simmons could pull that off perfectly. I don't know he if could do any stunts though as J. Jonah Jameson wasn't really action role if I remember correctly.
If neither one of those guys then Jeff Bridges would be my next choice.
Gabriel Roman
Looking around the internet for actors for these blogs as I usually do, I stumbled upon a really great actor that I and many many people love for all the right reasons. That actor is Bryan Cranston. Cranston is quite possibly the most talented man on television right now even if I haven't seen Breaking Bad yet. Still though from what I've heard about that show and him is that it's great and he's great. I only remember him from Malcolm in The Middle because he was always funny on that show so I can't speak him on Breaking Bad.
I thought the guy was in his early 60's so Cranston at 56 currently seems to be a good age range. He may not be the main villain but still I would hate to see a lousy actor get the role when such a great actor like Cranston could easily do it.
If not him then why not Terence Stamp?
Atoq Navarro
The story's primary antagonist and also Roman's lieutenant. As the game is now over four years old, we are all undoubtedly aware that Navarro was just using Roman to get what he really wanted-El Dorado which Roman was also after. Again I hate to use the voice actor but since I can't find another good actor for the role, I'll use him anyways. He's voiced and mo-capped by Robin Atkin Downes
He also provided the motion capture in Uncharted 2 for Tenzin so this guy obviously has some stunt training which is good but Navarro doesn't really do anything that would require him to do some big stunts. There really aren't any other good actors that still look young enough to play the character so Downes is the best choice. There is Benjamin Bratt who kind of actually resembles Navarro these days but he's in his 50's and in the game it's stated by Roman Gabriel that when he found Navarro, he was a kid so Benjamin Bratt's age would obviously be a problem if they kept that small detail.
