The Wonder Woman film has been in development it seems for over a year a now and Warner Bros is looking for a release in 2013 yet they've announced nothing about the movie and haven't even said who's writing it. It's a shame that Wonder Woman has not yet had a film as one would have expected her to as she's one of DC's big three or Trinity as it is called. It can definitely work as Kenneth Branagh made Thor work on screen.Thor wasn't a spectacular film by any means but the character was able to translated to the big screen without seeming silly and so Wonder Woman should be able to be adapted for the big screen.
DC has been rather slow in getting their characters to the big screen while Marvel is putting out several films a year with their characters. Wonder Woman is a tier 1 DC hero and Thor is essentially a tier 2 Marvel hero and somehow he's had a movie and she hasn't. Though she has had a TV Show, a stellar animated movie, and almost had another TV show but we'll just forget about that one.
Director
I don't know how many directors could direct a Wonder Woman movie but there does seem to be one director who is interested in doing one but unfortunately he wants the wrong actress for the role (Christina Hendricks). I'm talking about the director of 2011's Drive-Nicolas Refn. I have yet to see Drive but it sure seems to have gotten a warm reception among the people of Screened as they've continually talked about it for months and still haven't stopped.
However if from what I've read about Drive it's that this guy knows how to make a movie where the scenes without action are far more interesting then the ones with it. Rotten Tomatoes said it was "A hyper-stylized blend of striking imagery and violence, Drive represents a fully realized vision of arthouse action.". So then if he can do that with Wonder Woman, then you have got yourself one hell of a Wonder Woman film.
Wonder Woman: Gina Carano
Up until a few days ago, I'd never heard of this actress but then one of my favorite web sites called Collider sat down and interviewed her. In the interview, Steve over there asked her about the character and she actually turned out be a fan of the character and that had not been the first time she had been asked whether or not she wanted to be Wonder Woman. Don't be fooled by that picture, she actually is an actress and is the star of the new Steven Soderbergh film Haywire. Very few actresses know how to kick ass and Gina Carano happens to be one of them. She is the real life Wonder Woman and I really really think she should be casted.
In interview she said "I read up on her a little bit on her, cause that's surprisingly not the first time this has come up in conversation," she said. "And it seems that she's extremely feminine, but also a very strong character. So it would be fascinating to get to know that character." I should also add that she was a Mixed Martial arts fighter for a while and so that just adds to her resume for the role. Here's the interview:
Wonder Woman Choice Two
As a backup, I'd have to choose Bridget Regan of Legend of the Seeker fame. Regan is a pretty good actress and has definitely got the looks and build necessary for Wonder Woman.
Steve Trevor: Justin Hartley
Justin Hartley probably isn't going to be playing Green Arrow again so why not have him play Steve Trevor in a Wonder Woman movie? He can easily play the role and he's available to do it because with Smallville done, he's currently out of a job. He's only about five years older than Carano so it's more believable for him to be Steve Trevor than it would for someone like Nathan Fillion who is also good for the role.
Ares or Hades: Gerard Butler
Wonder Woman doesn't exactly have the greatest rouges gallery in comics so there are really only a few villains that she could take on in a movie. One of those is Ares. DC's Ares is completely different from the Marvel version and isn't really used all that often I believe. In an interview in 2010 Refn commented about Wonder Woman's villains saying "And where Wonder Woman on one hand is a great female character who can be included in many great fight scenes, she doesn’t have great villains against her. She doesn’t have a Joker or those classic Batman kinds of guys. OK, so you create some. Well, that's when it gets interesting, because you have to create a great countervillain to her. They tried in Catwoman — with not particularly good results. The trick with Wonder Woman is to find that antagonist who worked so well in the Batman concept — his villains are equally if not more exciting than Batman himself. Here, it's basically coming up with who would be a great counterpart to Wonder Woman. Is it her mother who’s the real enemy? Something that’s biblical in a sense."
I think that villain he's searching for is Ares as he really is Wonder Woman's greatest enemy. It'd be easier to go with him then spend time creating an entirely new villain. To play him I have to say Gerard Butler would be pretty good. Butler's played a Greek character though Leonidas was not a villain but still Butler I think would be a great choice. He could also play Hades as well. I just want to see him to play either character because it would be so cool to have Gerard Butler play either one of them.
My other choice is the actor Joseph Fiennes who also could play either character. Personally I don't care if it's him or Butler because both are well suited for the roles.
Minor Roles:
Hippolyta: Lucy Lawless
Yeah I know it's a bit silly but Lucy Lawless would be great as Hippolyta as she was Xena the warrior princess on that show of the same name.
Artemis: Abbie Cornish
Need proof, just watch Sucker Punch.
