I did not see this one coming.

"Mexican actor Gael Garcia Bernal will lead “Zorro Reborn”, 20th Century Fox’s futuristic reboot of the famed masked sword-wielding Spanish avenger.

The B-movie style adaptation will surprisingly not be set in Mexico or California and will instead adopt a desolate & post-apocalyptic setting as a ‘one-man vigilante force bent on revenge seeking’. Revenge on who or what or even what the catalyst was for Armageddon is anyone’s guess but we are told the proposed movie would be part Sergio Leone Western/part No Country For Old Men.

[..]

Variety says no director is currently attached but there was one last Spring when Van Helsing and X-Men: First Class pre-vis supervisor Rpin Suwannath was attached to make his directorial debut. Those plans perhaps have changed.."

Really curious about this film but I'm sure it is going to be terrible.

Press releases make me laugh sometimes. "The B-movie style adaptation will surprisingly not be set in Mexico or California..." Haha. I'm sure they expect someone somewhere to be like, "Oh my god, what?! Not Mexico or California?!"

Do we really need another Zorro movie? Half the public will probably think it's a live adaptation of Puss in Boots. Actually, a live adaptation of Puss in Boots sounds really neat; just put a small sword in some cat's mouth. I'd watch that.

To answer you question, no we don't need another Zorro film. I love Zorro but he's a character of the past and I don't think that after the myriad of adaptations of the character (several of which are absolutely fantastic) that we could ever need another one. Also the fact that they're calling it a B-Movie style adaptation has me worried. Post apocalyptic Zorro + B-Movie style adaptation= something I'm worried about.
