So now everyone is being effected by Direct TV vs Viacom

I don't know how many of you have Direct TV. I have Uverse. So I wasn't to worried about getting pissed on if Direct TV and Viacom fight, yet hear I am wet.

For those who don't know Direct TV has balked and not signed a new contract with Viacom networks to carry their channels since Viacom wants an extra 30%. If they didn't sign a deal by midnight July 11 Direct TV customers would no longer get such great channels as Comedy Central,MTV (1-8) VH1, Nickelodeon, CMT and other ones. They didn't and are now locked into a battle of brinksmanship, waiting for one of them to blink.

In an attempt to get Direct TV to blink first Viacom has pulled all their programming off their various sites. So that means if you forgot to DVR Daily Show or whatever and normally caught it online the next day (like me or just watched it all online due to a lack of cable) well guess you'll rember next time. The little guy always gets screwed in these things but this just is annoying.

Viacom fires back by removing Daily Show and Colbert Report from streaming online.

Direct TV had said to their customers losing Comedy Central (a Viacom channel) could watch The Daily Show and Colbert Report online. Viacom obviously didn't like that. Link.

First time 2 media giants haven't backed down to one another and the first time (that I recall) one of those media giants fought back like this. Usually it's unkind words before signing a new agreement. Weird times.

And this is why we need to be able to pirate...

So does that mean that the only way as a Comcast user (TV and Internet) I can watch the Daily Show is on the TV? How barbaric! The only way I was watching that was through Hulu. Now I'm going to have to time myself with the TV. NO THANK YOU, SIR!

@jeffallton: You are able to pirate. And taking away the viewership of their shows won't help, it will make these media companies make it harder to access your shows online. Pirating doesn't force them to see things your way, it forces them to think the old way (the way that has been making them money) is best.

@Monkeyman04: I'm not sure about Hulu, just on the comedy central website. Guess we'll find out when the show comes back on. And it's only temporary until they strike a deal.

@FinalDasa: Well, I just looked on Hulu and so far as I can tell it still works there, but that's only from the free user of Hulu perspective. Not sure what it's like from the Hulu+ side of things.

As much as I like the daily show I kinda want this to continue to escalate, see if it shakes things up business and format wise for traditional tv...

I'm a Direct TV customer, and Nickelodeon was my favorite channel to watch. Now, it's been taken away, along with 25 other channels.

This really pisses me off.

@roger778: Are you thinking about switching or just hoping it all gets resolved?
