The trailer for Ang Lee's next big movie, based on the adaptation of the novel Life of Pi written by Yann Martel, has been released. The film is Lee's first since Taking Woodstock in 2009. Due to the popularity of the novel, this film has been highly anticipated.
I did not read the novel, so I don't have that context to compare it to. It does have a very dreamy quality, which I assume might be attributed to the story. However, then I found myself wondering why the CGI seems to be overwhelmingly obvious. It does look as if Ang Lee is trying to create a new visual style - which when it works, it works well. I am willing to trust that Lee knows what he is doing, especially when it comes to visuals, but color me slightly skeptical.
