The Hunger Games return with such a sequel twist that you can't believe writer Suzanne Collins didn't think of film when writing. Catching Fire builds up with all types of subversive messaging which is interesting but also brings into relief the limitations of the genre and film.
A show about the other side of high school, told from the perspective of, you guessed it, the freaks and geeks. Notable for being the start of many current comedian's careers, most notably Judd Apatow and Seth Rogen.
Just like in high school, the characters in Freaks and Geeks are divided into several groups.
Lindsay Weir (Linda Cardellini): An insecure, unsure teen. Lindsay was a member of the mathletes at her high school McKinley. She starts to hang out with the "freaks" of McKinley, presumably because of the death of her grandmother. Lindsay is one of the smartest students at her school, even though she doesn't want to admit it.
Sam Weir (John Francis Daley): Sam is Lindsay's little brother. A freshman at McKinley High, Sam struggles to deal with his bully Alan White, and his crush Cindy Sanders. He is concerned about his sister's new friends the freaks, and does his best to keep her from turning into one of them.
Harold Weir (Joe Flaherty): Harold is the head of the Weirs, and owner of A1 Sporting Goods. He is concerned about his daughter's recent behavior and choice of friends.
Jean Weir (Becky Ann Baker): The supportive mother of Lindsay and Sam. Like Harold, Jean is concerned about her daughter, although she is not as vocal about it as he is.
Daniel Desario (James Franco): Daniel is somewhat of a leader of the freaks. He has a shaky relationship with Kim Kelly, another freak. He is the first freak to invite Lindsay to the smoking patio, the "home" of the freaks. Daniel has been held back in high school for two years, making him the oldest freak at McKinley.
Nick Andopolis (Jason Segel): Nick has one passion: his 29 piece drum set. He has a short relationship with Lindsay, before her mother inadvertently breaks up with him. Nick is usually high. He has seen the face of god, and his name is John Bonham. Nick's Dad tries to stifle his son's passion, causing Nick to eventually run away from home. Nick aspires to be a drummer.
Kim Kelly (Busy Philipps): Daniel's girlfriend. Kim is initially angry about Lindsay's inclusion into the freaks, but eventually grows to become friends with her. Kim has a rough relationship with her parents, mainly over the ownership of Kim's car.
