I legitimately don't think I understand the appeal of Freaks and Geeks. I'm on the eighth episode and am already legitimately bored of it. The characters seem bland, and the plots are always full of cliches. As much as it tries to push the realism, each episode seems to boil down to one or two situations you'd find in, say, an episode of Saved by the Bell, heightens them up a bit, and throws in a gallon of teenage high school drama. At this point, it seems the only thing bringing me back is the crazy amount of big-before-they-were-big actors. And Joel from MST3K.

Can someone explain the appeal of this show to me?

Well, honestly, it helps if you're over 30 and remember the time period the show takes place in. But, yeah while I thought it was okay, I didn't see it as groundbreaking like Homicide: Life of the Streets or invigoratingly fresh like Arrested Development. I found it to be across between The Wonder Years and My So-Called Life. That isn't a bad thing but I don't get why it's so revered by some. Well, apart from the Hollywood stars that started on it. I find that Undeclared is another like this...also by Judd Apatow.
