Baseball woes.
Baseball woes.
It is baseball season in Mabase. Haruko consistently makes home runs for her team while Naota's team, the Mabase Martians, suffer another loss due to the loss of Naota's brother as well as Naota's inability to swing the bat. The Martians then notice Canti's superior ball throwing and catching skills and add him to the team. Haruko ridicules Naota for not swinging, which he discards with his usual air of nonchalance. Naota walks back home to a disturbing scene. His father, Kamon, is giving Haruko a

"chin massage" as she moans in pain and pleasure. He ignores, but becomes angry as they share eggs mouth-to-mouth and storms out of the living room. Naota begins takes a swing at the vending machine outside of his house, but is interrupted by a man with large eyebrows. He speaks in a very cryptic way, discussing their bread and hinting at Naota's family life, especially about Haruko. Naota is disinterested. The man buys some spicy bread and leaves.

It is nighttime. Naota is practicing his swing outside, and is offered help by Haruko. He objects, but she eventually coaxes him to agree. They work on his swing and become friendly again. Naota notices a star flickering out of control. Meanwhile, at a hidden facility on the outskirts of Mabase, Aramao, the man with the thick eyebrows, is leading a team of government employees. They identify the flicking star to be an alien satellite. Aramao also dissects the curry bread for clues, but gets nothing. He asks them to determine where it will land. Back at the bakery, Naota wakes up and notices Haruko's disappearance. He tiptoes around the house and finds his dad's door cracked. "Don't move, I'm gonna stick it in," says Haruko. Naota takes a closer peek, but makes eye contact. His head pulses and a beacon flashes from his head. The government officials locate the beacon and confirm that the satellite will crash in Mabase. The next day, Naota and Mamimi spend time under the bridge when Haruko swings by on her vespa, chastising him for not going to the game. Mamimi goes with her as he heads back home. The scene turns black, and there is a broken clock and his dad's body, a pool of blood surrounding his head. It appears as if he doesn't seem affected by this, as his "dad" comes out of the bathroom. He has a robotic gait and is speaking with a robotic voice. He upsets Naota about his relationship with Haruko, and Naota swings his bat at the TV set and his dad collapses.

The baseball game continues on as Naota is being interrogated by Aramao. Naota consistently says that he never hit his father, even if he wasn't asked. Aramao angles his case against Naota on his jealousy of his father's behavior, and things get weird. He talk about a "Pirate Lord Atomsk" and how Naota is her "current victim," then lets him go. A state of emergency has been placed over Mabase due to the incoming satellite. Naota returns home and finds a swarm of flies near a cupboard. In it is his father's emaciated corpse. He screams as it latches on to his body, and he stumbles toward the bathroom. Mamimi stands atop an electric tower, welcoming the satellite as her new master. Naota has fully hydrated his father, who claims that he died after being used as a "portal" by Haruko. Naota, perplexed, returns to a conversation he had with Aramao before being released. Aramao states that Haruko is an alien who uses a particular person to get access to Medical Mechanica. Naota was supposedly the right person, but worthless things pop out of his head. Suddenly Haruko busts through the wall.

She collects Naota and places him on top of Medical Mechanica, his head flickering with the red light. She pushes her hand into his head to his dismay, and eventually pulls out a stylish electric guitar. Back at the government facility, they realize that it will deploy a bomb where Naota is. Haruko likens the situation to baseball, and tells him to swing as she escapes. He freaks out, unsure of what to do. The bomb deploys. Naota swings, slowing it down, but it still appears to be active. Haruko comes back and smashes it away from Mabase. The force of its departure is atomic, tearing a huge trail of destruction below. Aramao is pissed that the bomb did not blow up Mabase, especially Medical Mechanica and Haruko.
