After an accidental cryogenic freezing on January 1, 2000 Phillip J. Fry awakens at the dawn of the year 3000 and finds himself a lot more at home in the future then he ever was in the present. You can't prove it won't happen!
Trivia:
In "Lrrreconcilable Ndndifferences" Ndnd watches a live Earth broadcast even though it takes 1000 years for the radio waves to reach her planet as shown in "When Aliens Attack". This works because the in "A Clone of My Own" The Professor explains that the speed of light has been increased, so all broadcast would travel at the new faster speed.
