I don't want to drop spoilers but I'll say that the Dothraki and dire wolves are much more active in Episode 7.

Yes the Wolves are growing, one of my biggest concerns heading into the series was that the Wolves would top out at 'Large Dog' size, which is NOT the impression you get in the books.  I just think they should remind you of their presence more, even if they aren't showing them directly.  Give me Bran sitting at the table and feeding it a scrap, rather than having him pick at the table.

Don't get me wrong, I am truly appreciating how it is staying true to the books, I just think they have missed some chances to add depth.

I fucking love this show so damn much. Went through all 5 episodes last night and the sixth earlier today. SO GOOD.

I thought the heart scene and the final scene were positively fantastic. This show is off to an excellent start.

This show is the best damn thing on TV at the moment and I say this as a big fan of the books.

One criticism though: Where are the goddamn dire wolves?!
Really? Really? Best show on tv. Nothing is better than this. Really. You need to watch more tv dude, you're missing out on a lot of good shows if you consider Game of Thrones THE best thing on television.

Really really. There's not one show I've watched in years that is as consistently awesome as this show has been so far.

I have been a big fan of the books for years so maybe I am biased.

@brainboy77: At the moment I think that statement is absolutely true. I mean, look at what else is on TV right now. The Borgias/Camelot both pale in comparison to Game of Thrones, The Killing is getting weaker and weaker, and the only thing on network TV that can compete is the final season of Friday Night Lights, which already aired on DirecTV months ago and is even out on DVD. The only thing I could see anyone make a reasonable argument for is Treme, but that has such a niche audience that I doubt that opinion will find much traction.

Now, of course, I'll take Breaking Bad and Mad Men over Game of Thrones any day of the week, but since BB won't premiere until just before Game of Thrones wraps up its season, and Mad Men won't even be back this year, Game of Thrones is pretty much in the top echelon relative to other current TV.

@lclay: The Wire, although it really hasn't been on the past few years depending on your outlook. Breaking Bad, Sons of Anarchy, Justified, Southland, and I'll toss in Treme because of its ambition, all shows just off of the top of my head that have been consistently good and better than Game of Thrones. Plus, and I may be wrong, but the tv show pretty much follows the books to a T, so color me not impressed by that and the fact that this is a fantasy show. It's not really breaking complex themes or trying to make the audience think; Game of Thrones just offers the same old familial/political drama in a fantasy setting and while it certainly works from in that regard, it needs that ambition of trying to present a narrative that resonates with viewers on another level. It lacks this quality and for that reason it can never be the best of television. And shows like Breaking Bad do a lot more with plot in six episodes than Game of Thrones has done

Viscerys is not a sympathetic character, if anyone felt bad for him in this episode its because they didn't make him as big of a piece of shit as in the book. They did a great job overall, but if he was made to be as shitty as he was in the book, there would have been more payoff in that scene.

@Chadster: Justified just ended and that was superior to Game of Thrones. I'd probably argue that Treme is better than Game of Thrones. Treme's biggest strength and weakness is its plot but the emotional impact, the punch to the gut every episode manages to deliver at least once is greater than anything Game of Thrones has yet to offer.

That ending was gangsta as fuck.  Not my quote but what my friend texted me after the epsiode.

Dude I really enjoy GoT more than any programme I can remember watching recently but I can understand if it's not your thing. I can't see how it being so close to the source material can be a bad thing when I'd also claim that the books are probably some of the best books I've ever read.
Maybe it's because I was already in love with the story, the characters and the grim fantasy setting from reading the books but there's not a moment in any of the 6 episodes so far that I haven't been glued to the screen and grinning like a madman and knowing what's yet to come I can hardly contain my excitement for the rest of this season and all the seasons yet to come.

I understand that maybe you disagree but really it's just a matter of opinion and all I know is that from a purely subjective point of view, there is not a single programme I can remember enjoying as much as Game of Thrones since the first time I watched Firefly, my all time favourite show. You can criticise the show and throw names of "better" shows at me all you like but it's not going to affect my personal experience with GoT and I am not going to argue with someone on the internet over something so trivial.

Don't get me wrong though dude, I will probably look up and watch most of the programmes you mentioned and will no doubt enjoy them immensely but I am fairly certain that GoT will still be better in my eyes.

Something we have to keep in perspective is that this is the opening to a potential seven season (or longer) television serial. Anyone who knows the story from the books knows that we are still ramping up to the main event and if anything this entire season is just a prologue to lay the groundwork for the insanity to come. If it isn't someone's thing then it isn't their thing. Fantasy settings are one of those things where people seem to either really love them or really hate them. To each his own.
