So, what will next season be called?

With the incredible success of a A Game of Thrones both critically and commercially I think we're guaranteed to see at least a few more seasons if not the complete run of the books brought to television. This got me to thinking what are they going to call the following seasons? To those familiar with the books A Game of Thrones is obviously the first part of the series but the casual viewer might not even be aware it's part of a larger series called A Song of Ice and Fire. So, will they name next season A Clash of Kings or stick with A Game of Thrones?

Also, who else can't wait for A Game of Thrones to go up for pre-order on Amazon?

I haven't seen the show myself, but I'd imagine brand continuity would definitely help the show. Maybe they could put A Song of Ice and Fire as a subtitle?

I almost wish they had done that with this season. Perhaps they'll add it after the fact kind of like how they retroactively declared Pitch Black a part of the Chronicles of Riddick.

HBO actually greenlighted (greenlit?) a second season before the first episode even aired. If I had to guess, I would call every season the same name for consistency's sake.

I was thinking the exact same thing!I hope their feeling ballsy and call it  A Clash of Kings but i'm guessing they'll call it Game of Thrones: A Clash of Kings.

Edit: I'm so pumped to get the Blu-ray edition of Game Of Thrones.

Ya, they will definitely stick with Game of Thones. They might add a subtitle to it but they don't have to and I probably won't. Knowing thats its the second season is enough.

Have any other shows changed the name for different seasons? I can't off the top of my head.

@pat4327: I think its more for Marketing's sake, they already have a established well received brand, its just bad marketing starting from scratch again every season.

If they were being honest it should be called "Game of Thrones : More Gratuitous Sex and Edible Scenery!" but obviously they should call it "Game of Thrones 2: Electric Boogaloo".

@Ferg: Life on Mars, was then followed by Ashes To Ashes

it is the only close example i can think of.....

Quick question: Will next season deal with the same characters/events of this season assuming season two follows the second book? Do the other books take place around the same time? They are pretty thick, so I was wondering how much more time we had with these characters. Or do some books deal with a whole other generation of Starks and whatnots? (Please answer in a non-spoiler-ish fashion if possible.)

Same characters and events. Each book is roughly a year.

Seeing as the book series is actually called A Song of Ice and Fire im pretty sure they will stick with Game of Thrones.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure they'll stick with the Game of Thrones title, and throw in a credit title card "based on the book Clash of Kings" during the into.
