I've gotta admit, I thought the Blackwater episode could never meet all the hype made about it. But holy shit, did it ever. Even Podrick was perfect.

Warning: This episode may cause erections that last longer than 4 hours.

Almost too much badassedry for a single hour to contain.

That was effectively bad ass and epic even if you think about it, it was kinda small. Tyrion chopping a dudes leg off must become a gif!! Man if there was an episode that needed to be an hour and a half this was it. I wonder what the production budget was.

Tyrion better fucking survive. He FUCKING better!!

That was a pretty fantastic episode, though im disappointed they dropped the whole "Ghost" of Renly thing. Also im curious to see how the show explains Tywin Lannister turning to go fight at King's Landing instead of against Stark (as he was planning last episode) without the Tully's around to turn him.

@Donkeycow: In last weeks episode he never says He is going to face Stark. He only says he wants some time before Robb find's out he is marching.

Man is screened completely dead or what? I can't believe more people don't have anything to say about this amazing hour of television. Myself though is rather speechless after such a portion of badassery that was "Blackwater" so I'll just shut up for now.

That was quite possibly the greatest episode of any show in television history. They stuck with one plot line the entire episode, so there was no jumping around. I felt like you got really attached to all of the characters within this episode, like I really didn't want the dog to die, I even didn't want Cercy to have her kid drink the potion. Tyrion has to live. Btw, for those of you who were wondering, Brom is a bigger badass than the dog. That was just absolutely amazing, in every regard. The fire explosion was amazing, and Tyrion chopping the guys legs off was like...WTF HE'S A BOSS. Tyrion is officially my favorite character in Television history, and that was the greatest work of TV in...well forever. Well done HBO.

The focus on the battle was a nice departure from the usual 3 minutes per scene thing the show's become (out of necessity, really).

Seeing the Hound just tearing dudes up was great and I think Sansa finally became a likeable character. Tyrion running the battlefield was awesome, especially when he just tells everyone to forget about Joffrey. The whole thing was obviously constrained by a TV budget, so it wasn't going to match Helm's Deep or anything (though Battlestar kind of mastered the art of incredible TV battles). I also loved Stannis just leading the charge without fear.

And I haven't read the books, but I keep thinking that Tywin is going to become one of the main antagonists. His scenes with Arya this season made him one of my favorite characters, so seeing him pop in at the end was god damn fantastic.

Now... they have a ton of stuff to cover next week.

@Donkeycow: Actually, they did include the Renly's ghost thing, they just didn't draw attention to it. I went back and watched the scene where it's cutting between Cersie and Tommen on the Iron Throne, and if you look at the dude (presumably Loras) riding through the battle on the horse, he's wearing Renly's armor. The helmet has the little antlers. I wish they'd designed that helmet so the antlers were more obvious though. As it is, its only fans of the books who are looking for it that will notice.

Still, I think this was the best episode they've done of either season.

@Donkeycow: Well, they already set up the Tyrell-Lannister alliance in the earlier episode with Littlefinger and Tywin. And I think we can easily assume Tywin made a show of attacking Robb in order to throw off spies. They keep mentioning spies and how they've been screwed by them in the past. And he clearly suspects that Arya isn't who she says she is. Maybe he knows that Vary's uses children as spies and thinks Arya is one of them. Or he just suspects her because he knows she's a northerner.

Loras was wearing Renly's armor so i'm sure they'll mention it in the next episode. This episode was fantastic! I was pleasantly surprised with the gore, and Stannis climbing up that ladder first was fucking badass. These episode really needed to be longer! I wonder how they're going to handle the House of the Undying in the next episode!

I was not a fan of Stannis in the books, but his sheer badassery on the walls has really won me to his cause. He deserves the throne after that haha

It's too bad they couldn't budget for the raising of the chain, because that's what really makes Tyrion's plan to burn Stannis's fleet so effective. Other than that, I have to agree, this was the best episode so far.

Probably the best movie I have seen so far this year and it's not even a movie.

I would follow that King to hell and back! Loved it in contrast to Jeoffry's cowardice.

Yuuuuppp, what a fantastic episode. Although I'm really bummed that next week is the season finale. I don't think I can wait another year for the nest season.

Post by Skywarpgold (240 posts) See mini bio

The good news about the finale is that it's supposed to run 64 minutes! So at least they'll have some extra time to tie up the ridiculous amount of loose ends. Hopefully.

I'll just add to the gushing from everyone else. I was blown away. From what I've heard, the budget for this entire season (that's 10, 1-hour episodes) was only 50 million. 50 million when there are 90 minute movies that suck with budgets of 250 million and above! Supposedly the budget for this single episode was 22 million - almost half the budget for the entire season. I can see why. I'm still incredibly impressed with how the production team manages such amazing CGI and effects with so little cash to spend. As was said, it was no "Helm's deep", and you could tell the battle scene was much smaller than they wanted you to believe, but it was still awesome. I love me some good, old fashioned, makeup work and prosthetic violence! :)

I'm sorry it took me so long to get my post about this episode up this week, but in case it doesn't come across there, I will yet again say I agree with all of you and this was one of my favorite hours of television in a long time...truly felt like watching a movie!
