Do you figure those wheels stay aflame even when he parks this thing?

So, THR’s got the synopsis for Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance and I can’t help noticing connections…

The story sees Johnny Blaze, aka Ghost Rider, hiding out in remote Eastern Europe and struggling to repress his curse. Blaze is recruited by a sect to take on the devil, who wants to take over his mortal son’s body on the boy’s birthday.

European vacations? Bastard sons? Super-people trying to repress their nature? That actually sounds a little like the sorely-unappreciated  The American. And what a coincidence!  Violante Placido  is in talks to play the devil child’s mother, and she was  Clooney’s  broken-heart prostitute love interest in that.

But what about the devil-man? Who’s playing Mephisto (as he’s known in GR’s comics)? The producers apparently are negotiating right now with Ciaran Hinds about playing the prince of lies. I haven’t paid much attention to the guy, but a quick look at his filmography shows me that he was in There Will Be Blood... and that makes him swell in my book.

Nick Cage will be back as the boneheaded biker for movie #2, which will start shooting later next month in Romania and Turkey. I’ll confess to having passed on the first movie, but I’m intrigued in this one on account of the fact that Neveldine/ Taylor are directing. If you’re going to do a flick about a dude with a blazing skull, doesn't it make sense to bring in guys who’ll take it all the way over the top?

The first was terrible. I'll most likely wait for it to hit Netflix.

You know, I didn't entirely hate the first movie. The special effects looked great, the problem is the studio. Whoever they get to star in this, we're hardly ever going to see the actual Ghost Rider because, of course, studios want faces. So failing that, and failing to replace Nic Cage with an actor, let's see some actual fight scenes. The closest we got in movie 1 was Ghost Rider twirling his chains around and creating a fire tornado (it wasn't as cool as it sounds) to sort of banish one of the baddies. There was no lead-up, he just did it. If it's gonna be an action movie, let's have some ACTION.

THANK YOU, TOM!  You made the perfect point:  this movie has every chance of being awesomeness in celluloid strictly because it's Neveldine/Taylor doing the directing duties.

Hinds was the main villain in The Rock version of Race to Witch Mountain, so yeah....

But I liked looking at Eva Mendez!
