So last week when the news broke that G.I. Joe 2: Retaliation was being pushed back 9 months we didn't all seem to buy the idea of suddenly throwing 3D on to the feature. Deadline is reporting that the movie wasn't testing well, something that initially jumped to mind. The reason it isn't testing well? Audiences were apparently bummed out that Duke, played by Channing Tatum dies in the begging and that relationship between Duke and Roadblock, played by The Rock, isn't given enough time to develop before Duke eats it and Roadblock and the surviving Joes retaliate against COBRA.

Now the idea that Duke bites the dust isn't new, look at the promo material where is Channing Tatum? This might of seemed like a good idea at the time but Tatum has broken out a bit with The Vow and 21 Jump Street preforming pretty well. Tatum is still cheap to use who could only get bigger. It would be a smart move by Paramount to lock him into a multi film deal for the cheap and ride the wave.

G.I. Joe is doing reshoots that The Rock claims on Twitter to be

@TheRock It will be. Designing new scenes to enhance 3D. RT: @JimmyinGA: Was looking forward to GI Joe next month. Hope the 3D is worth the wait.

It wouldn't be a stretch that they are doing what The Rock says and adding more scenes for Duke

Killing Channing Tantum can only be a good thing. Delete all of his scenes and give us more of The Rock and Bruce Willis.

CALLED IT :D

I do remember suggesting such a delay meant someone saw it and didn't like it and that reshoots would have to be done. The delay is just way too lengthy especially with the entire summer season ahead. I wouldn't be surprised if it took another year for this movie to come out.

@FinalDasa:

If by another year, you mean 2014? You're probably right about that if it does happen. It sounds like they need to do a lot more work on the film before it's ready for release.

However, I'm finding it hard to believe that Channing Tatum's fan base was upset that he dies early on in the film. Apparently a lot of people love him, and I did not realize he was that popular.

@roger778: He is starting to make inroads with the female demo thanks to the vow and he really wow'd me with 21 Jump Street. If you asked me last year if I cared that I didn't get to see Tatum and his abs on screen next to the Rock, I would of said I didn't. Now though I kinda want to see him hang around and waste people.

History has a way of repeating itself. In the animated G.I. Joe movie in the 80's, Duke was scripted to die. Fans were upset about Optimus Prime dying in the Transformers animated film, so the had to do rewrites to put him in a coma, from which he awakens in the films finale.

In my local cinema, they're still heavily advertising this film :S giant cardboard cut-outs and everything.

@VioletEyedDragon: I don't really have hate for him, but he is Very Forgettable! He doesn't really stand out at all. But the Rock is Best Cast for this FIlm!

@Watcherg44:

I think Channing Tatum's best movie so far is 21 Jump Street. He and Jonah Hill were both hilarious in that movie.
