Shelby Corcoran returns to McKinley with a new teaching position, which stirs up trouble with Quinn, Puck and Rachel. The auditions for 'West Side Story' take place and force Kurt to be more 'masculine' and make him second guess himself.
Mike's parents show concern over his relationship with Tina after he gets an A- (also known as an 'Asian F'). Will finally meets Emma's parents and discovers the secret Emma has been hiding about them. Mercedes and Rachel battle it out for the role of Maria in West Side Story.
A foreign exchange student Rory joins McKinley High and fascinates Brittany, who thinks he's a leprechaun. Mercedes recruits Santana and Brittany into her new all girl Glee club. Quinn begins her devious plan to get full custody of Beth and Burt runs against Sue in the election.
It's nearly showtime for McKinley's version of 'West Side Story' and a strange direction from Artie makes Blaine and Rachel contemplate loosing their virginity, although a new Warbler, Sebastian sets his sites on Blaine; much to Kurt's annoyance.
Shelby and Will decide to pit their choirs against each other in a 'Mash Off' - which gets out of hand when Santana's rivalry with Finn ends in a bloody feud of dodgeball. Puck sets his sight on hooking with with Shelby and spills a secret. Finn's final face-off with Santana leads to a harsh, public outing.
With Santana officially out of the closet, Finn organises a 'Lady Music Week' which involves the Glee club singing songs of support for her coming out. Puck and Shelby's relationship escalates; only to get more complicated. It's Election Day for Sue and Burt and Brittany and Kurt , who are all desperate to win.
It's Sectionals and it's the Troubletones vs New Directions who are both determined to win. Quinn threatens to tell the Principle about Shelby and Puck's fling but Rachel acts as the voice of reason. Mike and Tina's relationship is tested when Mike's dad is still unapproving of his son's career choice and an old face returns to McKinley.
It's Christmas and Sue enlists the help of the Glee club to help out at a centre for the homeless but drop out when they receive a better offer; a television special directed by Artie. Since Rory is alone this Christmas, Sam offers to help him out and Finn struggles to deal with Rachel's high maintenance.
Will finally decides he's going to propose to Emma and asks the Glee club for help in finding a romantic, inspired way to ask. Finn makes a drastic decision when he thinks about enlisting into the army. Mercedes has mixed feelings when her Summer fling with Sam brings back memories and Artie starts seeing Becky more, but when she gets the wrong idea he is forced to break it off.
This weeks theme sees the New Directions perform songs by the late King of Pop, Michael Jackson in preparation for Regionals. But when they find out the Warbler's are also using Michael, they have a 'sing-off' which ends badly for Blaine. Sam continues to fight for Mercedes, who tries her best to resist while Rachel struggles to say 'Yes' to Finn's proposal and Quinn has some exciting news.
When WIll gets a complaint about his teaching methods (or lack of it), he takes a Spanish class led by the charismatic David Martinez, who introduces culture and rhythm to the Glee club. Rachel confides in Kurt and Mercedes about her recent news. Sue decides she wants to have a child ... with Will.
As Valentine's Day is fast approaching, Sugar organises a party titled the 'Sugar Shack' in celebration of the event while both Rory and Artie fight for her affections. Rachel's dads organise a get-together with Finn's family and seem very supportive of their plan to marry. Mercedes finally makes a decision between Sam and Shane. Santanna is furious when she is discriminated against for kissing Brittany in public and Kurt has a secret admirer.
With Regionals fast approaching, a surprising tragic event puts the whole world in perspective for the New Directions and Rachel decides to have her wedding sooner than expected; straight after the competition. But with their parents still against the idea, will things go ahead as they plan? Meanwhile, Sue makes the announcement that she is pregnant.
Blaine's famous brother, Cooper Anderson, arrives in Lima and agrees to spend one on one time with his little brother. But with the fame gone to Cooper's head, Blaine finds his hard to cope. Rachel feels guilty for Quinn, who is now in a wheelchair after the tragic event after regionals. Artie shows Quinn support, although she is intent on being able to walk again. It's 'Senior Ditch Day' and the New Directions head to a theme park while Sue gets some bad news.
New Directions' latest assignment is to perform songs from 'Saturday Night Fever' - with the attention focused on Santana, Mercedes and Finn; who have yet to decide their future. Kurt and Mercedes are approached by Wade, a member of Vocal Adrenaline, who asks them for guidance about his secret. Finn, still confused about what he wants to be, is supported by Rachel and Will. Santana is shocked to find out a sex tape between her and Brittany has been leaked.
New Directions pay tribute to the late, great Whitney Houston as Will finds out their mourning of her is more to do with the upcoming graduation. Kurt and Blaine's relationship becomes strained when Kurt begins texting another guy. Will wants to move the wedding date up to Spring, although Emma is not too sure and Quinn grows closer to Joe, who helps her through her physical therapy.
When Santana makes a remark about domestic violence, she and the other New Directions' girls must perform songs about female empowerment, which doesn't go so well with Coach Sue and Roz. With Puck struggling to graduate, the boys decide to help him pass his upcoming Geography test but a surprise visit from a face from Puck's past throws him off balance. It's judgement day for Rachel and Kurt when the NYADA judge comes to McKinley High and Coach Bieste hides a dark secret.
It's the Prom and Brittany, as the President, decides on having a 'Dinosaur' theme this year. When Rachel discovers Finn and Quinn are running for Prom King and Queen together, she decides to skip the event altogether and organise an 'Anti-Prom' at a hotel. Quinn is desperate to take the crown once and for all and will do whatever it takes to get it, even lying to her friends.
Sue has the New Direction kids learning a new high-concept routine in time for Nationals. But when Tina has an accident, her whole world is turned upside down. Rachel plans to invite Carmen Tibideaux to Regionals in hopes that she will get into NYADA. Puck faces a life-crisis when he comes at a roadblock in his life and Shannon re-thinks her marriage when Cooter still proves to be violent towards her.
This is it, McKinley high are back at Nationals and are more desperate than ever to win, especially since it's the last time they will all be performing together. But problems arise when Mercedes gets sick, Carmen Tibideaux has yet to show up, Quinn struggles with her dancing and Unique is a force to be reckoned with; will they all crumble under the pressure? or finally be the champions?
