Brown does not read off a script or teleprompter. Instead, notes he recorded prior to shooting are fed into an ear piece.
In addition to Good Eats, Brown has hosted two Food Network specials - "Feasting on Asphalt" and Feasting on Waves" - and currently hosts "Iron Chef: America."
Creator and host Alton Brown is not a professional chef, but a cinematographer who previously specialized in music videos. His primary goal for Good Eats was to introduce more active camera work, which he pitched as "putting a camera in the oven."
Most of Brown's family and relatives that appear on the show are hired actors. None of his family members have actually appeared on camera.
