Billy Peltzer foolishly ignores the three rules involved with taking care of a "Mogwai" (no water, no eating after midnight, and no bright light), and unwittingly unleashes a dangerous horde of mischievous Gremlins upon a small suburban town.
Trivia:

Despite Steven Spielberg's changes to make Gremlins a more family-oriented film, many critics alleged the film was much too violent for children. Along with "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984)", Gremlins is credited as being responsible for the creation of the PG-13 rating.
