This Show is Shockingly Good

I have to say that in the run up to Grimm's premiere I had almost completely dismissed it. In suppose I've been jaded in recent years to almost totally disregard any program shown on major network television. I've burned by the Heroes and The Event's of recent years. After the first two episodes of Grimm I have to say I have had my faith somewhat restored.

A show based on the premise that a cop discovers he's a part of a secret society of monster hunters named "Grimms" who hunt mythical monsters that were immortalized two centuries ago in fairy tales designed to subtly warn the world about them. This could have easily turned into some Charmed nonsense but so far they've managed to keep it entertaining. From the menace of a "Big Bad Wolf" kidnapping a little girl and locking him in his basement, to a group of the "Three Bears" capturing people and hunting them in a ritual coming of age, the show has been shockingly dark and raw. For example one of the nominal good guys ripped a man's arm off tonight.

The show has some melodramatic flaws but so far I'm enjoying it greatly and it's probably my new favorite program of the fall. So, has anyone else watched Grimm and had similar feelings or am I the only one?

It's a police procedural with fairy tales infused.

I like both of those things, which makes this show perfectly fine for me. = D

The jokes in the promos have always seemed grossly out of place. I'll give it a fair shot though.

@Pickle: I'm not going to deny that they are trying to keep things from becoming full on dark. Some of it works and other times it feels a bit hammy.

Just watched the second episode, I really like this show so far, I just worry about the direction they may take with the show. So far so good though, I will keep downloading through Itunes for now though...

This past week's episode was both interesting and puzzling. It definitely set the stage for some kind of greater conflict to come. Something I suspected from the start. However, it explained almost nothing.

Eh, it's a perfunctory procedural with a tenuous--and at times, specious--link to the Grimm fairy tales. All the characters are also about as interesting as a piece of cardboard.

I watched the pilot, thought it was daft but not too bad. I can't see it having a long run though, so I'll hang back on it.

I found it completely unremarkable. It reminded me of this show from years back where there's an agency tracking down devils but only the agents can see their true form. But this is less interesting and poorly executed. Especially when compared to American Horror Story.
