The Hollywood Reporter has news that Guillermo Del Toro's next project will be the animated Trollhunters and it will be made with Dreamworks Animation. Previously it had been reported Del Toro would be making it at Walt Disney Studios, but that doesn't appear to be the case anymore.

Trollhunters is based on a book written by Del Toro for young adults, which he just submitted to his publisher a couple weeks ago. Said the man on the subject:

"I wanted very much to develop a story that could be written for kids but dealt with a genre that was scary. It essentially combines fairy tales with modern times and is about how difficult it is to be kid. Normally, kids are idealized in animated films. But the growing pains, married with the notion that there is a world right next to us that is completely plagued by creatures of ancient lore, it's thematically fitting with the rest of my stuff."

Dreamworks also says that Del Toro will be providing a consultant and executive producer on many of their upcoming projects, including Kung Fu Panda 2, and Puss In Boots. On his decision to go with Dreamworks, it appears that How To Train Your Dragon played an important role:

"They took risks with that movie with pathos and imagination and structure. It made me pay attention."

Del Toro is slated to wrap up Trollhunters before going into production on his adaptation of Lovecraft's At The Mountains Of Madness.

I wish Del Toro would make something soon, i've been waiting since Hellboy II.

The sooner he makes the Lovecraft adaptation, the better. That film has to be my single most anticipated movie ever.

How many fucking things is he involved with these days? Really hope he's not spreading himself out too thinly...

 Cool, but all I want out of Del Toro right now is At the Mountains of Madness.

This man needs to stop signing on to movies and start actually MAKING them.

I desperately want At the Mountains of Madness. The best Lovecraft movie we have so far is X: The Man With X-Ray Eyes and it wasn't even based on a Lovecraft story, it's merely thematically similar. Go Guillermo GO!

@Undeadpool:

What about From Beyond? Re-Animator? Dagon? In the Mouth of Madness? Even 'The Thing' kind of counts. There are quite a few above-average Lovecraft adaptations. That being said, there are plenty of sub-par films as well (Necronomicon anyone?).

@Darkstorn:
I haven't seen most Lovecraft movies, I'll admit, I was more talking about a good, solid mainstream one that might open up for a bit more credibility among studio execs.
Re-Animator was...I dunno, it seemed to be going for laughs as often as it was for dread. The Thing is my absolute favorite horror movie of all time, but it's a little too on-the-nose to be Lovecraftian. There are certainly parts inspired by Lovecraft, and there's the sense of dread of the unknown, but the graphic monster dismemberment and flamethrowers kinda kill the tension.
This is why I think it's been so hard to get a higher budgeted Lovecraft movie made: the scariest part is what you don't see. And of course execs always want to SEE the monster.

@Romination:  Seriously. It seems like his name is attached to everything.

With Charlie Kaufman and GDT having some sort of involvement in Kung-Fu Panda 2, it's sure to be...? I don't really know. Either way I know I'm looking forward to it.

@Toxin066: Not just attached, that I'd be fine with. Him producing probably would be OK still, Spielberg handled that in the 80s and 90s. But to DIRECT? Man's gonna have a coronary.

@Undeadpool: I beg to differ. Re-Animator was fucking awesome, and I feel like the original story was meant to be dark comedy anyways, so the movie really just keeps and expands in its own way.

@Undeadpool:  You make a good point about Re-Animator's dismissal of traditional Lovecraftian norms, but it's still a ridiculously entertaining movie, as Romination pointed out.
Again, At the Mountains of Madness is virtually my most anticipated film ever, and I'm hoping that Del Toro works his ass off to make a horror masterpiece, one that bucks the regressive trends of modern horror cinema and reinstates true horror of the unknown as a genre device.

P.S. - Am I the only one who really wants to see a 'Colour out of Space' movie? That was always my favorite Lovecraft story, and the Creepshow short (already a loose adaptation) didn't really do it for me.

Del Toro is the most overexposed person in Hollywood.  The guy is spreading himself a bit thin.  I'm sick of hearing about him, and while I liked Hellboy II and Pan's Labyrinth alright, I don't think he deserves the amount of praise that gets heaped on him.  I think the community justs like having someone to champion.
