Good evening, Mr. Murphy. Welcome to the rest of your career.
Good evening, Mr. Murphy. Welcome to the rest of your career.
Keen readers of the Tron: Legacy panel report from our man on the beat at San Diego Comic-Con, Mr. Matt Rorie, might have caught his blurb at the end where director Guillermo del Toro came out on stage to announce that he would be helming a new movie based on the popular Disneyland ride The Haunted Mansion. I love Del Toro--we all love the man, really--but please, please, don't let this be the thing he walked away from The Hobbit for (in addition to the massive delays and uncertain MGM future).

This is not the first time the ride has crossed planes of existence to become a movie, but dear lord I sure wish it were. Rob Minkoff directed an adaptation back in 2003 starring Eddie Murphy that's currently at 13% on Rotten Tomatoes and is most certainly not among the ranks of "so bad it's good" movies that titles like Troll 2 and Manos: The Hands of Fate lead. This thing's just fucking horrible. Whatever, I have complete faith in Del Toro, mainly based off of my unreasonable love for Cronos and how the man will probably find a way to fit Ron Perlman into this thing. If anybody can give such a famed theme park attraction the horror movie Disney thinks it deserves he can.

They have to let him make it scary.

Anything Guermo is involved in sign me up. The Orphange that he produced or The devils backbone convince me on his ghost storytelling.

Have to agree with snake_runner, if it is done with balls to the wall horror and fantasy then it will rock with Guillermo del Toro's hands but somehow I doubt that will happen.

Maybe this is just a paycheck movie for him?  Disappointing if that is the case.

No, stop. I want Guillermo to do Hellboy 3. That's a great movie series, it uses his talents well, and 2 left on a cliffhanger that BEGS for a 3rd to complete the trilogy! Get on this del Toro, Pronto!

Plus, if anybody but del Toro was doing this, would anybody care in the slightest? No. We don't need it. We NEED Hellboy 3.

He walked away from the Hobbit to make THIS?! Geez...

He must be getting paid a SHIT load of money for this garbage, or Disney is telling him to do this so he can get his hands on some other comic book hero.  That would make sense.

Dissapointing.

I was hoping he would do one of the 2,365 other more awesome projects he is attached to.

I can imagine the reaction to this announcement at Comic-Con was about the same as Sega's big announcement that they were publishing The Matrix Online.

Still, I hope that he can make a good movie out of it...somehow.

Del Torro will knock this movie out of the park.  I am calling it now that it will be one of the most successful movies of whatever year that it comes out.  Disney will give him whatever he needs and Del Torro has a hand in 3 great movies with Pan's Labyrinth, The Orphanage, and Hellboy 2

At least it'll look vaguely interesting even if it is total trash.
