Dig Deeper into Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

I like this film more than i should

ryanwhoon July 26, 2011 at 5:03 p.m.
All I can think is the waterfall scene and how it seemed to keep going and going on forever and ever.
skywingon July 26, 2011 at 5:04 p.m.

I am very much looking forward to this.

I wonder if this will be a truly divisive feature. The movie was, ok, only gets singled out in comparison to how great the other films are.

Radio_Resistanceon July 26, 2011 at 5:06 p.m.
Okay. If KOTCS gets a feature, I DEMAND Temple of Doom gets some love because IMO TOD was miles and away better than Indy 4.

I honestly though the film was fine on the whole. The biggest complaint I heard from people was "Aliens? Ugh, that doesn't belong in an Indiana Jones film, it's not realistic!" Which, listen, if you felt that was out of place, that's your prerogative, but the first movie features a magic God-box that melts Nazis faces off. Just sayin'

I'm fine with Aliens. There are only so many Judeo Christian relics with superpowers to mine. Yeah they could stick with that shit I guess, do one on the Midas touch or whatever, but the idea that one ridiculous thing is allowed to happen in a series but not another is kinda goofy. I mean the fact is, in all these movies the bad guy "wins", get what they want, and it ends up killing them violently. So Indy could just chill at home and these dudes would kill themselves off. Let's not introduce feasibility into this series.

I still love this movie and while it isn't quite as good as the other films, it is quite good and I thought Shia LaBeouf as Mutt Williams was a great idea and look forward to seeing him again. It may be stupid at times, but again the old films were just as stupid at times.
Captain_Insanoon July 26, 2011 at 5:17 p.m.

My big issue with the film was the whole 'Aliens' thing. Up until that point the film was a typically fun Indiana Jones romp though still not as good as the others. I don't dislike the aliens thing because it's not realistic (I have a Masters of History and know that Indiana Jones is not representative of true history or archaeology), but because it is unnecessary. The whole plot could have easily been explained with 'this is an ancient Mayan curse/hex'. Problem solved. Everyone loves the movie. Yay!

I agree that this film is half-good.

The fridge scene was where I started disliking the film too.

eshchanon July 26, 2011 at 5:19 p.m.

Is it me or is there only 2 points for good and 3 points for bad?

FoxMulderon July 26, 2011 at 5:22 p.m.

More like one third-good! AMIRITE?

Atary77on July 26, 2011 at 5:23 p.m.
I actually like this movie. I found it to be on par with Temple of Doom. Yeah surviving a nuke blast in a friedge is silly but it's not like falling hundreds of feet from a plan in a raft isn't either.
Spiritofon July 26, 2011 at 5:27 p.m.

I have to disagree, The Crystal Skull is entirely unwatchable.

Delta_Assaulton July 26, 2011 at 5:27 p.m.
Cmon Rorie. This video was great but... I keep waiting and waiting for you to get to Sunshine. The suspense is killing me, you know?
RockinKemosabeon July 26, 2011 at 5:27 p.m.

I thought the chase scene through the streets and the university campus was the most exciting because it lacked the overbearing CGI and it delivered a piece of excitement that really echoed the stunts and action scenes from the original three.

Also, if you are a fan of Scrubs, the bit part of the Janitor near the beginning of the film was just so bloody weird.

dethmunkyon July 26, 2011 at 5:29 p.m.
Half?  That movie is like taking a dry shit.  It hurts coming out, and it leaves your ass bleeding, but you'll never forget it (no matter how hard you try).
Vincemasteron July 26, 2011 at 5:31 p.m.
I didn't hate this movie as much as some people, and honestly I thought it was on par with Temple of Doom (which I never liked much), but overall I thought you got the right balance of bad and good in that feature. Nice job.
Kentobion July 26, 2011 at 5:32 p.m.

My biggest problem was that it felt like Indy did nothing the entire movie. Particularly in Raiders and Last Crusade, Indy's actions are crucial to moving the plot forward and in getting closer to the mcguffin. In KOTCS, Indy either stands around, or follows someone else, or is forcibly dragged from one place to another. If he wasn't involved, the entire plot wouldn't have changed. It's disappointing how passive they made him, which only made him feel old.

PJon July 26, 2011 at 5:33 p.m.

I wouldn't call Crystal Skull half-good. I would call it a movie, nothing more, nothing less.
