Never thought this would have been any good... Guess i was half right!
Also: I could care less about Amy Adams' character, shes just a poor attempt to connect with current audiences...
Yeah, but Amy Adams is really, really, really cute!
your right Half of this movie the Julia Child part is good the Julie part SUCKs though Amy Adams she i nice to look at
I forgot how bad the Julie stuff was in this film. The Julia stuff though made me really want to learn how to cook more for myself, her life is surprisingly inspiring for me.
Yep.
In fact, the blogger that this story was based on is kind of a bitch in real life, and it's pretty obvious that it was not done for some sort of "discovery of self" but to garner attention and fame, piggybacking off the persona of Julia Child. Julia Child actually turned down meeting the blogger and "Julie" got incredibly catty about it.
awesome review! my wife and I thought the same thing after watching the movie when it came out! THe other one was Jumper, I wanted to watch the movie about the OTHER jumper guy... and to a less extent I am number four, i wanted to watch the movie about number 6....
Nothing wrong with Amy Adams, nothing at all.
Oh I enjoyed this film way more than half good. Then again my movie tastes are scattershot.
this movie left me baffled, and I had to mentally justify it by telling myself, "surely this was a backdoor around legal, and monetary issues" like they didn't wanna pay for Julia Child's life and likeness, and be stuck giving the estate royalties? so just give some blogger a couple of grand.
In real life the Julia character cheated on her husband, if you needed a reason to hate her more.
This movie should be called Cook Braud, and the movie poster is just a fist.
@LazyMan: Pretty sure the blogger got more than a couple grand. More like low seven figures.
Ah, the Half Good title sequences never fail to make me laugh.
I was thinking about how this should be a Half-Good segment a day ago! :O
Thanks, Screened! n_n
Great job Matt and Joey!
I really enjoy this movie, and for me, the celebration of the way the food was made was plenty to make the kitchens come alive and be interesting. Apparently I didn't have as much of a problem with Amy Adams' character as other people, but I do find the real Julie Powell obnoxious beyond words.
Brilliant ending, as usual.

No, you make it sound like Julie is a made up character designed to appeal to the youth audience. In fact, the move is based on a book which was based on the blog the author started.
I think Rorie definitely has some strong feelings about honestly, I think it is much ado about nothing. The Julia parts of the film are the better parts of the film but I hardly found the Julie parts bad. It's a decent flick just not a great flick and I doubt think it would have been that much better if had just been Julia.
Now I'm getting FAT
I didn't hate the Julie Powell half of the movie but Julia Child's half of the movie was so desperately charming I really do wish it would have just been a biopic about her. The Julie half was incredibly one-dimensional to me, which is a shame, as it's a terrible waste of Amy Adams' talent and charisma. I'd love to assume this is because Julie Powell herself is insufferable and has none of the charm of the woman she's using to bring herself to fame, but really the script is just bad for that half. Like they were two separate scripts smashed together for convenience.
