There were parts that were really stupid but I enjoyed the movie overall.

I'd love a blu-ray that had an isolated sound track so you could watch the visuals and not have to endure the terrible dialogue.

And someone should do a fan edit of this and cut out all of the Sean Bean stuff. I don't think it would be missed at all. In fact, it'd make the movie a lot stronger. And shorter.

Never saw the movie, but I say this "Half-Good" segment is All-Good

Definitely keep them coming, guys! I'm a fan of the video game series but never got around to watching the movie. I might have to check it out just because they threw Pyramid Head in there!

Perfect choice for this topic.

Another awesomer feature, but dudes you should do them more often.

I like the movie for all the same reasons that you do Rorie.  I also didn't like how they just were like HERE IS WHAT HAPPENED! I would have more enjoyed it if they gave out more subtle clues as to what happened to the town, letting the audience figure it out and not just telling us out right.

Oh and I love this feature! Keep them coming.

I was a big fan of the first Silent Hill game and I couldn't get past how horirbly they butchered the plot to adapt it to film.

I completely agree with the analysis of the movie, I remember watching it and wanting to look away or shut off the movie when I heard the siren because I knew it was going to get bad.  I also do love me a silent monster, something you cant reason with or talk to, it just wants to kill.  This movie kind of made me angry afterwards because it was just a few changes from being a great horror movie.

I definitely echo your sentiments on this movie, Matt, although I think I lean slightly more towards good than bad.  The movie definitely has its weak points, there's no doubting that, but I feel that what it lacks in story, and, to a lesser degree, the acting (which I don't think is too bad), it more than makes up for it in atmosphere and fx. I do wish Sean Bean had more to do, and would have preferred the story to more closely reflect the first game (with Sean Bean in the Harry Mason role), but it seems as though the sequel will take care of that.

I look forward to more installments of Half-Good.

I really was not a fan of this movie. The look of the town was great, and some of the early monster encounters were satisfying enough, but the script, acting, and pacing were real letdowns. And, of course, the cult and all of its insipid details were hugely boring.

I agree that making the film more experimental would have helped it. Y'know what I think would be more effective as a Silent Hill film than this? Eraserhead. Just change the title card, maybe add some fog to the town, and it would be more authentically Silent Hill than the Silent Hill movie. It evokes the feelings of playing the games, whereas this comes off as a stylistic imitation of them.

Rose da Silva and Ethan Mars should meet each other.

SHARON! JAAAASON! SHARON!....

Love this feature, and I actually rather liked that movie. Considering the amount  of game-to-movie translations that have gone horribly horribly wrong, this was incredibly refreshing.

Awesome new feature and a good movie to start on. Next film should totally be Sunshine.
Undeadpoolon Jan. 13, 2011 at 7:53 p.m.
I was living in Park Merced when this movie came out, which is right next to a firehouse. If anyone's ever lived near a firehouse, they do tests of their emergency sirens (which sound like the air raid sirens from this movie) every day at noon. I was thusly awakened by a loud, but somewhat distant, air raid siren that I'd never heard before after seeing this movie and awoke it COMPLETE PANIC. I was ten seconds into waking up my roommate before I realized what I was doing.
...ANYhoo, great new feature! I feel pretty much the same about the movie.

I agree with everything in this feature, but I would say that the sound design deserves as much credit for the atmosphere as the set design and cinematography. If this film had had the marketing and popularity of Inception or War of the Worlds I think the siren in this would have been as embedded in pop culture as those two films versions.
