Will Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows be rewarded with oscars

After seeing Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 2 for the second time today, I really could not help but be amazed at the production levels of every aspect of this film, especially when compared to the other films that have come out this year. Aside from Source Code, there has not been a single movie that is anywhere near as good as this in terms of production values. Which leads me to believe that DH part 2 might get a little Return of the King syndrome, since there are few good films this year, and since it really does deserve recognition for the series as a whole, if not just this film.

However if there are three Oscars that I really hope it gets, regardless of what else happens: Best supporting actor for Alan Rickman (his performance was one of the best parts of the entire series), best visual effects ( they are always exceptional, yet they never win, but that Dragon was absolutely gorgeously rendered), and best score (Alexandre Desplat really made the score incredibly epic, which I really thought added a lot to the battle of Hogwarts).

Does anyone think that it could clean up at the Oscars this year, or will it coming out in July hurt its Oscar chances, or does it not even deserve any recognition at all?

I suspect a Best Visual Effects award in the making. Otherwise, not really.

why not??  it has an 87 on metacritic.  star wars and avatar both got nominations  i dont see why this doesnt have a shot.  (not saying its certain, but it could happen).

it will also get a best cinematography nom, even though i personally think the cinematography in the film is poor.  im just thinking it will since half blood prince and deathly hallows part i did.

I think it could. The last three Potter movies are definately my favorites of the series, and some of my favorite films ever made. But I do not think they are nearly same caliber as movies that win Oscars. I enjoyed the Kings Speech a lot, but Inception was definately my favorite of 2010. Hell, I even loved Scott Pilgrim and Tron Legacy, but I know those kinds of movies will never get the top category Oscars. I for one have really stopped caring about the Oscars because I know the movies I hold dear to me will probably never take best picture. It's great when stuff like Inception or District 9 get nominated, but both of those were a complete longshot at taking the Best Picture. I have liked the past years winners, but the last one I liked enough to watch over and over was The Departed.

But back to HP7 Pt.2, I could definately see it getting nominated for cinematography or art direction since it is stellar in both aspects. But you have to remember there are still all of the fall/winter movies that end up being most of the Oscar contenders. As great as Rickman is, his performance is pretty much one that takes place over all 8 films. He was great in Part 2, but I don't think its enough to garner a nomination.

So I guess I could see Deathly Hallows Part 2 getting nominated for the cinematography, visual effects, and art departments. At most it'll probably be the Avatar/District 9/Inception type nomination in the Best Picture category. The popular vote film nomination to gather more viewers, one that never has a true chance of taking the award.
