AKA Haywire, he was an inmate in the psychiatric ward in Fox River and was for a time Scofield's cell mate. He also had a doctorate in mathematics from Harvard.

Background.

Patoshik lived with his parents and claimed that his father used to drink, implying this in a negative way as in some manner his father drinking hurt him, in what way was never specified.

Charles Patoshik didn't showed signs of his mental illnes until much further in his life, he was always an excellent student and even got himself a doctorate degree in mathematics from Harvard, he also won mathematician of the year award four times.

During his intense studying routines he began showing signs of his mental sickness, until one day he lost it and attacked both of his parents and killed them with a shotgun, when he was interrogated he said that he didn't remembered the accident. He was diagnosed as a bipolar with schizoaffective disorders and sent to the psychiatric ward at Fox River.

Major Plots.

Scofield's cell-mate.

While at psychiatric ward he got medication every day, but his paranoia was building up and began to be suspicious about why they were giving him the meds, so he began throwing up the pills, apparently he managed to fool everyone into thinking he was no longer a threat to anyone and was allowed to get into general population in Fox River where he just happened to be cell mate with Michael Scofield.

Haywire represented a big problem to Michael's plan, he couldn't dig in their cell since he couldn't be trusted, also Haywire had a neuroanatomic lesion affecting his reticular activating system, which means that he didn't slept. Michael found himself in a position where he wasn't able to do anything to keep up with the escaping plans.

Haywire got a look at Michael tattoos and became obsessed with them, he noticed that there was a pattern within them and drew them form memory. Haywire a genious at mathematics found out that the tattoss not only had a pattern but that they were some kind of maze and was constantly harrasing Michael into showing them to him. Michael in a desperate attempt hurt himself with the cell bars and framed Haywire. He was taken back to psychiatric ward and discovered he wasn't taking his medications.

Escaping Fox River.

He remembers.
He remembers.
One day he recieved a visit from Michael at psychiatric ward who revealed to him that he was right, that the tattoos were a pattern and he wanted his help to remember a part of it that was burn out from his skin. Haywire now was taking his medications so he didn't remembered Michael, worst the tattoo. Michael forced him to throw up for several days until he finally was able to remember the situation, he confronted Michael since he framed him and didn't wanted to help at first, but Michael promised him that when the time of the escape comes he would look up for him so he could also escape, Haywire accepted and give Michael the missing part of the tattoo.

When the day of the escape came he did managed to go out with them, since the inmates were obliged to go through psychiatric ward and Haywire found them. Once they were out the other fugitives found a way to ditch him, since he wasn't good for escaping and didn't wanted anything to do with him. When he was alone ironically since he was the one that didn't go far he wasn't found since they were looking for places more away than he was. He stole a bike and a football helmet and ride his way away.

After Fox River.

 Eating.

Later he entered a grocery store through thw window and began drinking soda and eating ice cream, when the employees got there he got scared and ran away, they call the authorities and the FBI found out a man with Patoshik's description was spotted and this became their first lead in finding him.

He ran away and entered a house where a blind old woman lived and confused him with her son that left seemingly a long time ago. This lady gave him cloth, food and a bath. Haywire saw a picture hanging in the wall and was captivated by it, he asked the old lady where it was and she told him it was Holland, where she grew up, that he should know that. She realized it wasn't her son in her house and called the police, Haywire ran out of there but not before stealing the picture he liked so much.

He went to another store and stole some stuuf, amog them a map, since the shop owner was handicaped he couldn't give chase to him, but the dog's owner could, Haywire was about to kill the dog but instead he gave him food, the dog apparently grew close to him since he stayed with Haywire and began following him. The stuff he stole from the store were to build a raft and escape to Holland and live in a windmill.
Sasha.
Sasha.

Meeting Sasha and dying.

While he was looking for wood on the thrash for his raft he was approached by two teenagers that wanted him to buy beer for them, he agreed only if they let him also buy food for his dog, they were alright with it and told them he could have a beer for himself too, he said that his dad used to drink, so he didn't. After he bought the beers they asked him what he was doing, he told them about the raft and Holland and decided to show it to them. Sasha, the girl was talking to him when Haywire noticed she had bruises in her hands, he asked them what they were for and she told him that her father likes to drink too. She and her boyfriend took off when they started to notice Haywire a little strange.

He followed them to Sasha's house, while he was looking through the window he saw a heated discussion between Sasha and her father, that ended up with her going to her room and her father preparing to beat her up badly. Haywire couldn't resist to just watch and entered the house and beat the man to death. He got scared with what he just did and ran away.

The news about Haywire killing that man of course reached the FBI and Alexander Mahone charged Brad Bellick to go and look for him, he interrogated Sasha and managed to get her to tell him were Patoshik was, Bellick found him and Haywire ran away until he found a grain elevator and got himself in the top with no way to escape, Bellick called Mahone, that told him he should keep Haywire until he gets there. Mahone got in the scene and climbeb up where Patoshik was, Mahone that got direct orders that the Fox RIver Eight should all be killed convinced him that what would be best for him would be to jump, Haywire do it since he didn't wanted to go back to prison and couldn't get to Holland.

As Mahone's hallucination.

During season 3, while Alexander Mahone was locked in Sona, he started to suffer from abstinence syndrome since he was unable to get his calming pills, and started to hallucinate with Haywire, he appeared in front of him and told him that Scofield couldn't be trusted and what he should do is just kill him. This happened probably for Mahone's own guilt about Haywire's death, since he didn't just killed him, he convinced a mental ill person to commit suicide.

Other Media.

Haywire appeared in the video game adaptation of the series, called Prison Break: The Conspiracy

His role was very similar in the beginning, he found out about Michael's tattoo and represented a threat, but it turned different from the series when he was sent to the infirmary for poisoning and not back to psych ward.

He wasn't part of the escape in the game.

Personality and Traits.

Haywire was a character that suffered from bipolar tendencies with schizoaffective disorders, this sickness made him naturally afraid of crowds and people in general, he liked to be by himself. Despite his sickness he wasn't shown as unable to make friends or share with others, presumably this was just something he decided, to let someone in or out.

Aside from his general disease he had a disorder that prevented him from sleeping, it is unknown if he actually never sleeps, but it's presumed that it was just something he found extremely hard to do, or maybe he was drug induced to sleep since it would have been physically impossible to stay awake forever, however he was never shown sleeping or in need of sleeping.

He was depicted as absent minded and childish, but extremely intelligent, as seen in his background. It's presumed that his disease was eventually going to get worse, since he passed from being a genius mathematician to a guy that thought that a picture would serve as a map and he would be able to get to Holland with a raft.
