I remember seeing House on basic cable several years ago as a child, and I don't know if I was enthralled with the cheesy 80's special effects, or what it was, but I must have enjoyed it quite a bit back then, because it doesn't live up to my memories at all. At its best moments, House offers up some excellent haunted house moments mixed with an almost Evil Dead-like humor (not as awesome though). However, too many things wind up coming off as a whirlwind of confusion. I didn't quite understand the story behind the main character losing his child several years prior at this house and then all of the sudden getting him back. I also felt that the whole "Vietnam" aspect of the film was rather cheesy. I understand the main character is a Nam vet, but seriously, this was just kind of a bit of a stretch.

And so House comes off as just average. I loved the special effects, and usually I'll take any 80's movie's special effects over a current day film, but the story just can't quite match what's being put on screen here.
