Since the 3rd Rock From the Sun game never happened, this could finally be my chance to play JGL!
Since the 3rd Rock From the Sun game never happened, this could finally be my chance to play JGL!
In the many weeks since Inception premiered, the world has seen something completely new and mind blowing, and experienced the backlash, then the backlash to the backlash, and so on. As of Tuesday, the film has grossed $285 million domestically and $468 million internationally, totaling $753 million. It's also the only summer movie to spend 10 weeks in the top 10 at the US box office. Whichever said of the backlash fence you're on, you can't deny it's been a humongous hit.

In Italy to promote it's opening on 600 screens in that country, Christopher Nolan spoke to reporters and let a detail slip that set the Internet and Twitters ablaze yesterday.

"We are looking at doing is developing a video game based on the world of the film, which has all kinds of ideas that you can't fit into a feature film. That's something we've been talking about and are looking at doing long term, in a couple of years."

No further details past that from Nolan.

I, personally, loved Inception, and throughout the film I couldn't help but shake the impression that much of it is rooted in video games. The whole concept of building these dream worlds is level design, and particularly when Ellen Page's character has to build the worlds within other worlds, culminating in that snow fortress level with a ski-assault, it seemed a very obvious homage to video games. So, this is just pure speculation from my part, but if they made a game where the player can be one of these level designers, as well as the person doing the mission within that level, it could be a VERY COOL game. In the hands of the right studio, an Inception game could be incredible.

Thoughts? Pitches?

I agree with you but its still way off, the Inception buzz might be gone by then and the game will suffer. That is unless theres a sequel or more likely a spin-off.

I hope they make it as a 2D game like Phoenix Wright. Through dialog trees, your goal would be to convince a character's mind of an idea, thereby causing inception!

It makes even deeper sense when you consider that so much of the really cool things Nolan has done with film have to do with twisting the medium of film to give genuine first-person experiences (Memento is the obvious example but there are hints in his other movies too). I'd be really interested to see what he can do with a medium that is first person to begin with.

If I had to pick a director to put great care and thought into doing something new with an established medium, he'd be first on my list.

I haven't seen Inception, but I would get this anyway just because it would be the closest I'll come to touching Joseph Gordon-Levitt

At that point, will I actually be playing a game though?

Or will I be playing the game I want the game to be but I'm actually asleep?

Or am I playing someone's idea of the game I want the game to be but I'm actually asleep and abducted?

Or am I playing someone's idea of the game I want the game to be but no one else likes it as much as I am.

Or...ah, fuck it.

Sure, could turn out well. Could also be very gimmicky. Glad to hear they're taking their time.

well, it is a Warner Bros. Movie and Warner Bros video Game publishing side is trying to get in to video game publishing and development in a serious way with acquiring The Mortal Kombat Dev Team and MK Franchise, and buying majority share in Rocksteady Developer Of Batman: Arkham Asylum and lot more to come, so a "Inception" Inspired or Based on game seems like good a possibility especially with Nolan's involvement.

Sweet! Now we just made a Brick game for more JGL action.

I've always wanted a game where you plan, then execute, a heist. You'd hire your crew who have different attributes, you'd plan your attack, you'd decide whether or not to use lethal force etc. I was hoping Kane and Lynch would be that, but it obviously wasn't. This could be a much, much better alternative.

Was Inception really that big of hit in America? I mean, it's a good movie and all, but I didn't find it to be all that mind-blowing. The plot was easy enough to follow if you just paid attention, and most of the twists were quite predictable.

Extremely fun and good movie? Yes.
World altering phenomenon like, say, Star Wars? No.
