Inception: a Bit Heavy on Tutorials

When you're playing a video game, there are times when a game with a lot of stuff to learn will take you through an extended tutorial, where the rules of the world are explained, and you're given a chance to experiment a bit before things get really rough. These are great when you're starting out, but a bit tedious when you pick up the game for a second run-through.

When I saw Inception for the first time, I was delighted by it overall. I felt they could have shown a lot more than they told, but the sheer audacity of the multiple layers of that movie still make me grin.

Yet I'm a bit dubious about the idea that I'll enjoy it quite as much the second time through. I know I'll get to try out alternate theories and have fun with noticing things I didn't notice before, but tell me, folks, for those who have tried at least, how well does it hold up the second time? I'm a bit apprehensive about having to run through the worldbuilding dialogues a second time.

I've seen it three times and I didn't get bored once. Of course, the prime material in the film comes in the latter half where everything is building to a huge climax, but the 'tutorials' are actually broken up with enticing faster/clever scenes which stops it becoming a drag.

@Joe:  One of the most remarkable shots in the film (the city-bending) DOES take place during one of the tutorial scenes, so perhaps you're right :)

Inception wasn't a great movie so much as it was a great world, so I forgive it for explaining things.

It's the modern day Phantom Menace; All plodding talk then ends on an (average) action scene so you come out of it feeling good.

Yes, unfortunately the movie does have some long bits of "tutorials" but it is completely necessary for that world and the entire movie to be realized. Ellen Paige's character (Ariadne) sole purpose in the movie is to ask questions for the audiences sake. Now to your question about whether or not it holds up and I would have to say it ABSOLUTELY holds up. There was a lot of dialogue earlier in the movie that you wouldn't completely connect the first time through that is illuminated the second time through. The movie is such a thrill and enjoyable that it is easy to watch a second time, and I am planning on going back and watch it a third time some time in the future.
