Just watched the Blu Ray and something really stick out and wondering if anyone can shed some light on it.

In dream 3 in the snow why did there bodies being weightless in dream 2 have no effect on them?

In dream 2 the effects of the van moving and falling in dream 1 were felt in that so I don't get why all the stuff in dream 2 didn't effect dream 3.

Any help?

@markh117:  Good question. Maybe the brain just doesn't recognize the third levels of a dream as being a dream at all. I know I've had dreams in which I went to sleep and dreamed inside my dream, but I think maybe the third level there might just be a no-man's-land where other internal dream states don't apply. Or maybe there's a better explanation?

when they're floating around in the hotel, they're completely motionless for the most part. my understanding was that only major movements (the van tipping upside down, falling into the river etc.) disturbed the gravity of the dream below.

Yeah with more dream levels the less stable it becomes so I guess the anti gravity "wasn't able" (if you will) to affect the lower stage.

I just assumed it only affected the second level.

This exactly.  Even though they were moving in the 2nd level, because there was no gravity, those movements would be considered minor.  This is precisely why JGL had to go to such lengths to "kick" them all by putting them in the elevator next to an explosion.  Just pushing them into a wall or something, again because of the cushioning effects of zero-g, wouldn't be enough force as say, a van plumetting off of a bridge.

I think the "haziness" of the 3rd level dream that others have mentioned is also a part, due to the exponential stretch in time.  But the zero-g was the main problem.

This rule is also obliquely explained when Saito and Eames are talking in the hotel elevator. Saito asks Eames if the disturbances are because of turbulence on the airplane to which Eames replies that it's too far away to have that much of an effect on the current level. Consequently the weightlessness in the car would have little effect on the hospital level.
