I’ll give it to Marvel, too. They've got sharp eyes for finding directors to match the material. Branagh for Thor, Johnston for Captain America, Whedon for Avengers… those are the kind of no-brainer choices fans wish studios would make more often. Favreau seemed like an immensely hard act to follow because of his working relationship with Downey, so it’s a smart card to deal, here, bringing in this guy he was so copacetic with in Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang.
I just want one of these projects to connect for Black (don’t forget that Cold Warrior project he was supposed to do with Mel Gibson.) I’ve grown up on the guy’s movies (he's best known as the screenwriter for the first two Lethal Weapon films), I’ve studied his scripts and six years is far too long of time to have gone by without any new material of his on screen.
