Hutt crime lord and gangster who temporarily "owned" Han Solo, encased in carbonite.
Jabba the Hutt is a well known crime lord within the Star Wars universe. He employs a variety of the galaxies scum to help expand and maintain his criminal empire over the Outer Rim territories. He is best known for his disgusting, slug-like, appearance and size which hinders his movement but also intimidates.
Jabba is first seen in the Star Wars story-line in A Phantom Menace. Jabba is hosting the podrace where many lowlife bet and gamble on the winner, this is the same race where Anakin Skywalker earns his freedom and is allowed to escape slavery on Tattooine and begin his life as a Jedi padawan.
During the Clone Wars Jabba became heavily involved with the war mainly supporting the Republic because of a rivalry with another Hutt gang lord who supported the CIS. Despite still having connections with the CIS during the war this put Jabba as a target to some which included the kidnapping of his son.
Hutt is only mentioned in the original A New Hope by Han Solo. Han is trying to get enough credits together in order to pay off Jabba who has started placing incerasing bounties on Han's life after Han dumped some valuable spice he was smuggling for Jabba. In later revisions made to A New Hope a new scene was added in which Jabba confronts Han outside of the Millennium Falcon and repeats dialogue used in the Greedo/Han scene inside the cantina. This was done by taking old footage originally shot for this scene, that was never used, and replacing the actor who was to play Jabba the Hutt with a CGI Jabba character.
In Return of the Jedi, Jabba plays his most important role. After hiring Boba Fett to find Han Solo, who still hasn't repaid Jabba the money he owes him, Fett is able to trap Han and freeze him in carbonite. Jabba puts Han in his palace as one of his favorite examples to others who work with him the lengths at which Jabba will go through to get his money.
C-3PO and R2-D2 are sent by Luke Skywalker to send Jabba a message, warning him that Skywalker, now a Jedi Knight, will be forced to kill Jabba if he doesn't free Solo. As a token of respect Luke offers the two droids for Jabba's palace. Jabba doesn't believe any Jedi to be alive and flatly refuses, taking the droids and ignoring the warning.
Unknown to Jabba this is all apart of Luke's plan to free Han and his friends. Princess Leia had already snuck into the Palace at night and freed Han from the carbonite but was captured. Luke arrives at the Palace and confronts Jabba once more, warning him to free his friends or pay the price. Jabba again refuses and after his first attempt to kill Luke fails, he sentences Luke and all his friends to death in a Sarlacc Pit.
Jabba takes his barge out to watch the executions, with Leia as his slave girl, C-3PO as his translator, and R2-D2 serving drinks Jabba expects nothing of what happens next. R2 launches Luke's lightsaber out to him just as he was about to jump in and Luke begins easily dealing with Jabba's thugs. With even Boba Fett falling into the Sarlacc Luke is able to cause enough commotion that allows Leia to free herself and choke Jabba to death with the very chains that he imprisoned her with.
Jabba is similar to most other Hutts, especially those who are gangsters like him, greedy, evil, and overall not a nice person. He enjoys putting others through cruel torture including the Rancor pit he keeps underneath his palace as well as forcing some to be executed inside a Sarlacc Pit. Jabba is also known to keep trophies of his past triumphs around his palace which at one point including Han Solo. He is also known for keeping a variety of slaves, females of a variety of alien races which he kept in revealing clothes and would kill on a whim.
