We should do this again... you free for Double Impact?

Jean-Claude Van Damme’s own body has done something Chong Li and that scary pony-tailed dude from Kickboxer couldn’t do; send the mighty action hero to the sidelines.  According to MTV News, JCVD was admitted to a New Orleans hospital after suffering a minor heart-attack while shooting his lastest film:

“Jean-Claude Van Damme is OK after suffering a minor heart attack while filming his new film "Weapon" in New Orleans… The famous action star, who turned 50 on Monday, was briefly admitted to a hospital in New Orleans and has since returned home to Belgium to fully recover.”

When contacted for comment, Van Damme’s reps emailed MTV to let them know “He is okay.”  So, that’s definitely some positive news.

Van Damme has always been a personal favorite of mine.  I can’t tell you how many times I’ve watched Bloodsport on USA or Spike.  When I learned he wasn’t going to be part of The Expendables I was pretty bummed out, since he's one of the big ones.

That being said, I can’t say this news shocks me.  It’s no secret that the Muscles from Brussels has long battled a cocaine addiction.  In fact, during the 90’s he was rumored to be spending up to $10,000 a week on the habit.  He’s apparently been clean for years, but the damage from his party hard youth might have finally caught up to him.

Here's hoping for a speedy recover for JCVD and a role in The Expendables 2.

Didn't know he was still making movies. Hope this doesn't dissuade him from continuing

He better survive long enough for Expendables 2, is all I've got to say.

JCVD was a hell of a movie, though. I liked it quite a bit!

I need to watch JCVD, but I don't know if I'd get my hopes up too high for Expendables 2. He was approached for the first movie by Stallone himself and according to Van Damme all Sly would talk about was the money aspect. Van Damme wanted to know more about the character he was going to play, rather than the money part, and of course Sly had little to offer him in that department. While ti sounds noble to turn down the role like that, he can't expect us to believe that he really liked his characters in the straight to DVD shit that he's been churning out all these years. I just think it's a tad hypocritical to criticize the Expendables like that and turn around and do something like Universal Soldier: Regeneration.

Kick Boxer and Blood Sport were 2 of the best martial arts movies of my youth (Bolo Yeung was one scary dude.)

It is too bad he didn't end up in The Expendables, I would have definitely dropped the Arnold scene as it was sorta dumb - and he looked BAD.  I still can't believe they got Jet Li in that movie.

Van Damme and Vin Diesel are the two action dudes I always wish got better parts; they might not be the best actors but there's something likeable about 'em. Bummed about this, although I guess that kind of thing happens when you get old...

But Sly says he talked to him since The Expendables released and he said he was all like "man wish I hadn't turned you down."

And since they're already working that sequel magic, they could easily fit him in!

I blame the director of 'Weapon'. He probably forced poor JCVD into doing the splits, at 50 years old, and his poor ticker couldn't take the strain.

He's also in one of my favorites music videos.

50 seems pretty early for a heart attack. I mean for a guy so physically fit.
