 I've got it! They were ALL the murderer!

It's kind of a truism that the older you get, the less likely you are to head out to a movie theater, instead preferring to wait for those moving pictures to arrive in 8mm reel form at the local haberdashery where you can ride your horseless carriage to acquire them. Or something. Anyway, young is in, and if you need any proof of that, get a load of this: Disney is planning to issue a new movie starring Miss Marple, an elderly, spinsterish amateur detective made famous by Agatha Christie in 12 novels, and 70-year-old actress Margaret Rutherford in a series of films in the 60's. Who would you cast in a new film version, if you were Disney? Helen Mirren, perhaps? Dame Judi Dench? Nope, the part has gone to one Jennifer Garner, a 38-year-old American.

Of course, Sherlock Holmes has been portrayed as a man of many ages, from a stately gentleman to a Robert Downey, Jr.-aged 40something, to a, well, young Sherlock Holmes, so it's not hard to imagine that this might work, but Miss Marple seems much more of a piece with her age and social situation: a bit of an old loner who's never been married, which I think we can agree is not to be Jennifer Garner's lot in life.

You can't make a film nowadays without a romance angle, so I'm betting that Disney's going to throw Ben Affleck or Will Ferrell in the mix, or something. Regardless, it's a bizarre casting choice. I like Garner more than most seem to; she can play up emotional vulnerability pretty well when she wants to. That's not quite a Marple-ish quality, though...unless Disney wants it to be, I guess.

The caption for that picture is incredible.
Well done, sir.

Am I the only one who see's nothing in Jennifer Garner? I hate to be that guy but I've just never seen her in a role that convinces me that her career choice is justified.

Solution, make her a Mouse.

I miss Jennifer Garner; she's gorgeous.  I bet she regrets doing Daredevil and the spin-off.

While I liked Jen Garner in Alias, and agree that she can play emotional vulnerability at times, I just don't see how Disney is going to take anything so "typecast" as Miss Marple and somehow make it work with her. Wouldn't they have been better off doing Nancy Drew or something a bit closer to JG's home territory? At least it might be a better fit.

I hope she does kung-fu.  That's where Agatha Christie really dropped the ball, as far as I'm concerned; plenty of casual racism, not enough kung-fu.

If it isn't Geraldine McEwan or Julia McKenzie then I don't care.

I'd see Miss Marple as a whole different case then Sherlock Holmes. Her whole thing was that she was the little old lady that no one suspected and was a detecting master in disguise. It's kinda like taking Columbo and making him into a gun toting, womanizing, hard ass rather then the frumpy looking schlub who was always thinking five steps ahead of you.

This is just kinda defeating the whole idea behind her. That being said, I would totally love to see Helen Mirren or Judi Dench in the role.

Bingo!

I dig Jennifer Garner but whole fucking piss Chris on a pojo stick!  Did the end of days just start with that announcement?  That has to be one of the dumbest ideas I have heard in a while.  The
is is the sort of thing you would expect to not leave a Hollywood brainstorming session.  Why even suggest that project has anything to do with Agatha Cristie.  You have divorced the entire core of the character and story from the source material.

Well, it's Jennifer Garner, and the caption is a spoiler to one of Agatha Christie's more famous books (albeit not a Miss Marple book).

@archteckguru8:  Arthur!

So this is probably one of the dumbest ideas ever. Why not make a couple of Poirot movies staring Justin Biber when they're at it?
