THE Screened Review by Matthew Marko
When sushi becomes art as much as it is food, the art of presenting it on film becomes transformative not only to the cuisine, but the people who make it. |
| David Gelb Director |
A documentary following one of the greatest sushi chefs in all the world. Jiro has been making sushi for more than 70 years and hasn't attained sushi perfection and is trying to keep his family in the business of the best sushi in the world.

Though it received good reviews, Jiro Dreams of Sushi was criticized for ignoring the accusations of racist practices in his restaurant. Many people have complained that Jiro, his son Yoshikazu, and his staff are shockingly rude to all foreigners. One person said that his party had their belongings tossed at them and when they entered despite having a reservation, but when his Japanese wife entered she was treated incredibly politely. The customary bow Jiro gives to departing customers in the movie is apparently something he only does to Japanese customers.
