Joel McHale Joins New Spy Kids Feature

Variety reports this morning that rising comedy star, Joel McHale, has been cast in a lead role in Robert Rodriguez's upcoming Spy Kids movie. Spy Kids: All the Time in the World is being billed as a reboot to the mega-blockbuster franchise.
 
In the film, McHale will play a  "spy-hunting reporter" married to Jessica Alba's retired spy character. Alba will be the stepmother to McHale's kids, who become spies, or SPY KIDS, if you will. According to ComingSoon.net, the kids will face off against the villainous Time Keeper, who is out to stop time. 
 
The film is already set for an August 19th release next year. While the movie itself doesn't interest me at all, I am happy to think McHale will get a big blockbuster under his belt, which will hopefully net him more roles in the future. The three previous Spy Kids films grossed $360 Million worldwide.

Man, that series shouldn't be rebooted. It was terrible at the time, and anyone who would recognize the name is too old to be interested. Terrible.

Why reboot?!? Do Sin City 2 and Deadpool already if this is a reboot!!! I was wishing the Spy Kids turn to Spy Teens.

@Catastrophic: The original Spy Kids are "old."  Alexa Vega is 22 and Daryl Sabara is 18.  Rodriguez can likely get out a Spy Kids movie in 6-8 weeks so it shouldn't affect anything else he does.

Why try to improve on the epic that was Spy Kids 3: Game Over.  Unless they Sylvester Stallone back to reprise his role, count me out.  Who am I kidding, I love to hate you Spy Kids

The first Spy Kids was a surprisingly alright movie, the trailers made it look awful however...

Rodriguez is a pretty versatile director. His children keeps him young I'm guessing. I think one of them is named Razor, or Rebell or something.

I loved the first Spy Kids back when it first came out. Spy Kids 3D on the other hand was truly awful...I really hate that film.

Oh my.  I so do love Joel McHale.  He's hilarious in Community (which the picture is taken from, yes?)  The first two Spy Kids films weren't bad, but the 3D one was just sad.

Not that I"ve even seen SPY KIDS but is that franchise really in need of a reboot?  Really?   
 
However, any roles for McHale is a good thing, hope he gets more work in movies, he cracks me up.
