I recently went on a John Carpenter bender and watched all of his (good) filmography. I skipped Ghosts of Mars and the like. I think that I like The Thing the best, but Big Trouble in Little China is a close second. What's your favorite J.C. movie?

Big trouble is the correct answer, followed by Escape from New York, then The Thing, then They Live.

You could say The Thing, Escape From New York, They Live and Big Trouble in Little China in any order and I'd believe you. I need to see some of his more obscure stuff like In The Mouth of Madness but I doubt it can match his big four.

No love for Halloween?  Anyway, its really hard to pick between Escape from NY and Halloween for me.  Also, In the Mouth of Madness holds a VERY special place in my heart.

The Thing

Assault on Precinct 13

Escape from New York

Big Trouble in Little China

Those are the easy ones, after that it gets harder.
And yes, I really think Assault is that good.

The Thing is probably his best movie in a technical sense. Closest to being able to call it a "film" with perhaps Halloween being thrown in the mix for shaping a genre much imitated.

For just balls out awesome though you can't beat They Live and Escape From New York. Big Trouble In Little China being his best flat out intentional comedy.
