Remember Pinchuk’s story about the 80’s action movie mega-mix? Well, here’s another one for your listening pleasure. This one’s all about Horror/Sci-Fi legend John Carpenter. And what makes it even more badass is that the mixtape was thrown together by Alan Howarth, Carpenter’s longtime composer.
i09 had this to say about the mix:
“Howarth made this mix for electronic music magazine Resident Advisor's Halloween podcast. The tracklist isn't listed, but if you ever needed a crash course in the music of John Carpenter, this is it — the soundtrack covers everything from Christine to ol' Jack Burton's theme song.”
It kind of sucks I just found out about this today. This would have been an awesome track to put on loop over Halloween weekend. Is there any other horror theme creepier and more well-known than the one for Halloween? I think you’d be hard pressed to find one.
What would be really cool is if someone made a mega-mix of all the greatest horror scores. But I’m sure it’s probably already out there and I just haven’t’ heard it, yet.
Carpenter actually recently hopped back behind the director’s chair for his upcoming film The Ward starring Amber Heard and Jared Harris. The last film he directed before that was Ghosts of Mars, which didn’t go over too well. Let’s hope this mega-mix brings back the old John.
