Background

The Movie Version of John Constantine is very different from his Comic Book Version. The Comic Book version is British and was originally imaged after Sting the Singer in Alan Moore's Swamp Thing, while the Movie version is "American" with black hair instead of the blond. The Comic Book version still smokes "Silkcuts" cigarettes, while Movie Version gives cigarettes up. Another major difference between the two versions is the way you pronounce the last name: Constantine.

The proper way is CON-STAN-TINE, the TINE should rhyme with Time.
The wrong and movie way is Con-Stan-TEEN. No reason stated why the movie went to pronounce the name Con-Stan-TEEN instead of its proper way of ConStanTINE.

The movie is also loosely based on the Hellblazer arc Dangerous Habit, written by Garth Ennis. In this arc Constantine contracts cancer from smoking, much like the movie. To save his life, John Constantine has to make a deal with the devil.
