I don't get the Jonah Hill hate

I'm not saying Jonah Hill is my favorite actor but people seem to really violently despise the guy. Where does this hate come from? Sure the guy has been in some shitty movies like The Sitter, Funny People, and Night at the Museum 2. He isn't the first actor to star in a couple of bad movie. George Clooney was in Batman and Robin and The Peacekeepers. Sam Rockwell was in Cowboys and Aliens, G-Force, and Gentleman Broncos. Michael Caine was in Jaws: The Revenge and a ton of other shitty movies.

Jonah Hill has been in some really great movies like 21 Jump Street, Cyrus, Moneyball, and Superbad. Along with numerous funny roles in various Judd Apatow films like Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Knocked Up. Is it because in most of his movies he typically plays a smarmy asshole who acts like he is better then everyone else despite being a loser? Danny McBride basically plays Kenny Powers in every movie he is in and nobody gives him shit.

Just like Dane Cook hate I just don't get it. Oh and for the record I am not really a fan of Dane Cook but I do think he is leagues better then guys like Jeff "It ain't racist if a puppet says it" Dunham or any of the Blue Collar Comedy guys.

Jonah Hill is fine. But Dane Cook hate is justified. But then Jeff Dunham hate is equally justified.

Yes I am a Jonah Hill hater. I have only seen in in two movies Get Him to the Greek and The Watch. YES, to be fair the where both really bad movies but in my opinion his acting made them worse. His comedic lines are stale and miss the mark. The stereotypical character he plays isn't funny at all it just a below average guy who tries to act super cool. MAYBE if they added a laugh track to some of his jokes he could be bearable but every time he speaks I get bored.

Look at his joke at 0.43, Am i suppose to be laugh or be shocked. All he does is turn a one eighty and tells his mom he loves her, No laugh there.

Now lets look at 1:12, Ben Stiller's character is, lets say amusing, but the Hill comes in with his so called funny lines and just F's up the whole scene. How can anyone find his lines funny.

Now to be fair, again it was not a great movie, but Ben and Vince have the talent to make fans laugh with just a look. I have never seen it from Jonah. Thats just my opinion!

@the_referee:

I didn't hate The Watch, but I didn't love it either. It had a few scenes that made me laugh hard. In my opinion, the true stars of the show were Vince Vaughn, and Jonah Hill.

Jonah Hill is not a terrible actor. He's just mediocre in that he doesn't challenge himself to do more movies that show us that he can act. His only great roles so far have been in 21 Jump Street, and Moneyball.

@the_referee: Yeah you can't hate Jonah Hill until you see Moneyball or Cyrus. That would be like me thinking Jeff Bridges is a terrible actor based on only watching King Kong and K-Pax.

I am a very open minded person and am willing to give Hill a chance. Chalk it up to bad roles in bad movies. I'll give him in a chance in Moneyball, which is a movie I've been wanting to see for some time, Cyrus too looks like a movie I might like, provided it isn't a movie of just ruining another life like The Cable Guy . I can't stand movies like that.

Finally I refuse to watch 21 Jump Street. I know it suppose to be good but I not going to, watch it. I loved the original show. Even though it was a rip off of The Mod Squad , at the time it was ground breaking television, and to turn a drama show into a slapstick comedy is an insult. Need I reminde you of Dark Shadows ?

I probably won't be able to convince you, but let me just say that 21 Jump Street is really, really good. The writers know that what they're doing is ridiculous and they have a lot of fun with it. There's some good fan service for people who watched the show which I won't ruin, but I would really recommend that you watch the movie. I normally don't even like movies like that and I laughed harder than I ever have at a movie theater.

Well as I said I do have an open mind, add to that I have friends, that I go to the movie each week with, The odds are pretty good I'll see it some time. I just hope it isn't the same old regurgitated jokes about reliving ones High school days that we see in these type movies.

I've never liked Jonah Hill's characters in any of the films I've seen him in (40 Year Old Virgin, Knocked Up, Super Bad, & Forgetting Sarah Marshall). He's like Michael Cera: he plays basically the same guy in every role. He comes off as really annoying. I think part of it is his voice. It's like nails on a chalkboard to me. I won't hate on people liking him, I just don't think he's that talented and has ridden on Judd Apatow's coattails.

@the_referee: Cyrus is strictly grounded in reality as opposed to The Cable Guy and is my favorite film of the whole mumblecore subgenre.

As for 21 Jump Street it was written by the same minds behind the brilliant MTV show Clone High. You really are doing yourself a disservice by not watching it simply because it isn't a drama like the TV series. 21 Jump Street did what I thought was impossible and made me like Channing Tatum.

I honestly did not know anyone hated him. i mildly dislike him because of the overwhelming amount of bad movies he makes, but i think his acting is good and he has never done something stupid in his personal life. and lots of people see his movies.

I'm in the opposite camp, I really like Hill, I watched him most recently in The Watch which wasn't a great movie but he was the stand out character in my opinion, Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn and Richard Ayoade were OK but Hills delivery was spot on, I loved him in Superbad and I have just ordered Cyrus, but I've not seen his terrible movies like Greek or Sitter and intent to avoid those like the plague.

I can't really comment on Dane Cook as I've only seen him in Employee of the month and I don't really remember it.
