You know I'd like to see more articles like these for established series rather than new series(like Terra Nova or Alcatraz). But its understandable. Time constraints and all its much harder to write an article on a Season 3 premiere or finale than it is to write an article on a series premiere. Its been awhile since I watched Justified so I'll probably end up rewatching season 1 and 2 after I get done watching Farscape.

One of the best shows on TV now, easily.

So far as I can tell, this episode was called "The Gunfighter", not "The Gunslinger". Seems to be a mistake a lot of people are making, but Raylan Givens ain't Roland Deschain. I would love to be of more help, but I've gotta get back to watching women's tennis.

Pretty damn great way to start the season. This show really does have it all: great writing, characters and actors. But holy hell that opening credits song is the worst thing ever.

While I still like the show, I still find Winona pretty meh as a character.

@gla55jAw: You never know with Boyd he seems to have all these plans but sometimes he just seems crazy. The only thing I will say is possibly not this time because remember he got transferred out of the first prison he was in, how would he know if he would get transferred and if he knew how did he know it would be that specific one?

I didn't think of it until I saw the scene with Dickie, where it seemed to me to be the exact way Boyd would handle it. Point of honour to punish the man who shot Ava, and going to jail was the way to do that.

I fucking love Boyd.

And also, to comment on your point, I think maybe he began the episode in holding and was transferred to the actual prison later on. I'm thinking they can't have too many prisons in Harlan, even though it seems to be crawling with criminals.

Watched this from the PVR last night, was impressed with the episode being such a strong start to a new season. I love the possibilities for Boyd this season, as well as some character growth for Ava.

My only complaint was the haircut they gave Desmond Harrington. Ithink they were trying to go for something that looked a little off, but I found he just looked like a little girl's doll that had suffered a bad haircut at the hands of it's owner. Add to that his undersized hat, and he just looked like a little douchey

That's what I was thinking too. He was in a holding "jail" and finally got transferred to "prison". And same with me, when he saw Dickie, that is when I thought he had planned it all along. I mean why else would he go after Raylan at the Marshall's Office!? I love this show.

Still kinda hoping Dickie won't bite the bullet, but he probably won't survive many more episodes with Boyd around. My hope was that Boyd would somehow get Dickie as an ally, probably through blackmail and violence, and gain whatever Bennett support there still is, thus building a cavalcade of a gang that all hates Raylan Givens. But really there is no way Dickie is surviving for much longer.

Does anybody else feel sorry for Tim and Rachel? They're listed in the credits every week, but rarely do they ever get to do anything. We got to see Tim for five-ten minutes this episode, and Rachel just got to sit and stare at her computer in the background. The show either needs to use them more effectively, or simply take them off the opening credits.

Great opening episode. I know people heap praise on Breaking Bad and Mad Men but I just enjoy Justified so much. Got just the right mix of action, humour, seriousness. Walton Goggins is one of the most enjoyable guys to watch on TV. Also Neal McDonough! Can't wait for Raylan and he to have a conversation.

A bit late to the party but I just watched this today. The scene in Winona's house at the end with Raylan outsmarting the thug was awesome. I just started watching Justified last month but love this show.
